As you uncover more of the Palpagos Islands, you’ll encounter different bosses in the massive towers inPalworld. Each of these characters has little to introduce them by the time you cross paths, unless you’ve been looking for all the different memos scattered in the Archipelago. However, each character has their own background that makes them unique.
Zoe Rayne is the first boss you’ll come across in the tutorial, though her influence stretches far beyond the beginning areas of the game. Here’s everything you need to know about Zoe Rayne and her connection to the Rayne Syndicate and the Palpagos Islands in Palworld.

Zoe Rayne’s Backstory
Zoe Rayne is the leader of the Rayne Syndicate, so all the Syndicate Thugs answer to her. From a young age, she needed to learn how to survive, and the thugs taught her how to do that. They mainly operate by catching Pals and selling them to the highest bidder in exchange for food.
The relationship is more complicated than that, as the thugs are more like family to Zoe. She never saw her mother’s face, and her father disappeared a long time ago. In the absence of her parents, the Syndicate Thugs raised her. Despite this, Zoe recognizes that this act of kindness is more out of obligation than love.

The only reason the thugs gave her a portion of their food and kept her alive is because she is the daughter of one of their bosses. Even as she grew and made a name for herself, becoming a boss herself, she still believes that her subordinates care very little for her.
This prompts her to dream of seeing the world outside the Palpagos islands. She’d heard stories of a brave guy that left a long time ago, but he never came back. That doesn’t frighten her, and she’s only more curious about the outside world due to knowing that others have come to the islands from beyond the sea.

Zoe admits that it sounds scary, but that doesn’t deter her from wanting to see more.
An Unbreakable Bond With Grizzbolt
In her second diary entry, Zoe reveals how she came to befriend Grizzbolt. The Syndicate Thugs injured Grizzbolt and planned on selling her when Zoe was little. Seeing a bit of herself–and her father–in Grizzbolt, Zoe felt a connection with her.
Zoe waited until everyone at camp was fast asleep, then unlocked Grizzbolt’s cage and ran away with her. They went as far as they could in the first half of the day and shared Zoe’s portion of breakfast toast to keep their energy up.

However, without much of a plan for how to survive on their own, Zoe returned to base with Grizzbolt. The thugs were enraged that Zoe sabotaged their sale, so they threw her in the cage with Grizzbolt.
Grizzbolt protected Zoe from the other thugs. None of their bats or bullets could beat her, suggesting that Grizzbolt never tried to escape on her own before, even though she clearly could.

Zoe gave Grizzbolt a command, and Grizzbolt summoned a massive bolt of lightning that knocked out all the thugs for hours. None of them woke up until the next morning, at which point they didn’t dare cross the boss’s daughter and her Pal.
Connection To The Free Pal Alliance
The Rayne Syndicate has been around for a long time, longer than Zoe knows or can remember. While her life was never easy due to her upbringing, it didn’t help that the Free Pal Alliance constantly caused problems.
They never liked the way that the Rayne Syndicate captured and sold Pals, or used weapons to do so, though the real reason for the fighting between the groups is unknown.
Guarding The Rayne Syndicate Tower
Zoe’s role as a tower guardian removes her from the islands and what goes on around them. She’s been guarding it for quite some time and has forgotten the reason as to why she’s locked away in the tower. Her father used to guard the tower as well, until he disappeared.
According to the legends that Zoe knows, the tower holds some sort of power that must be protected. She knows there are other towers across the islands, and that there are other guardians that keep the towers and the power they hold safe.
Still, she hasn’t forgotten her desire to see the outside world despite having to always be on guard to keep outsiders from infiltrating the tower.
