Summary
Dragon’s Dogma 2offers an unusual philosophy regarding fast travel, rejecting the standard “point-and-click on your map to teleport to that location” feature that many RPGs have adopted. Instead, you’ll need to find an object called aPortcrystalif you want to teleport to a specific spot instantly.
While on your journeys, you’ll locate large, stagnant Portcrystals. You must activate a Portcrystal to mark it on your map and use it; these are permanent fixtures in their particular spot. However, you can also find portable Portcrystals, which can be placed anywhere. You can teleport to these Portcrystals usingFerrystones, then pick the Portcrystal up to use again when you’re done.

Updated June 03, 2025, by Andrew Scariati:Whether you’re looking to optimize your Dragon’s Dogma 2 portcrystal locations, or want some ideas, these locations are superbly convenient. Prioritize a Checkpoint Rest Town portcrystal or a Bakbattahl portcrystal to improve your fast travel in Dragon’s Dogma 2.
7Borderwatch Outpost
The Borderwatch Outpost is one of the first few locations you’ll visit en route to declaring yourself as the true Arisen. Unfortunately,it is a bit far out to the northeast with no Portcrystal nearby, so it warrants contemplation as a possible location for your valuable Portcrystals.
However, the Outpost only has a few small tasks to complete nearby, so you won’t keep this as your designated Portcrystal locationonce you’ve trekked into Battahllater in the game. That said, enjoy using it as a safe point to restock and rest when you’re journeying north in the early stages.

6Checkpoint Rest Town
The Checkpoint Rest Town is a frequent spot to visit starting around mid-game, as there are a handful of quests within the town and several points of interest worth stopping at to chat with locals or restock. A Checkpoint Rest Town portcrystal will make this your base of operations for transitioning between Battahl and Vermund.
However, theCheckpoint Rest Town doesboast an oxcart routethat leads to it (from Vernworth) and out of it on the Battahl side of the gate (to Bakbattahl). Despite its accessibility, leaving a Portcrystal here allows for easy access to either of these oxcart routes if you’re not already in Vernworth or Bakbattahl.

Several quests will lead you through the Checkpoint Rest Town, includingHunt For The Jadeite Orb, andTensions On The Highroads.
5Sacred Arbor
Sacred Arbor is in one of the most remote areas of the Vermund map, with the only real point of interest somewhat nearby being the Borderwatch Outpost. The home of the elves will be an important spot to check in for several elven quests, including returning their lands to their former beauty.
If you’re a fan of archery, elves, or even nature, you’ll return to a Sacred Arbor portcrystal often enough to warrant dropping one here.

Placing aPortcrystal just outside the entrance to Sacred Arborwill also help to avoid the log bridge you must cross to reach this destination, which is notoriously easy to fall from.
4Volcanic Island Camp
While you likely won’t encounter this location until well after you’ve journeyed into Battahl, the Volcanic Island Camp is much closer to the beginning of your journey (at the Excavation Site) than you might think. Plus, you’ll pass through this area while searching for the Magick-Archer Maister and hunting down a Medusa.
Aside from its odd location, a Volcanic Island Camp portcrystal will be an excellent fast-travel location due toits proximity to the Magick-Archer and Warfarer Vocation-Maisters.It’s worth making your way to this spot as soon as possible to use it as a convenient place for a Portcrystal.

Using a Portcrystal also helpsavoid a long journey through Drabnir’s Grottothat is usually required to transition from Battahl to the Volcanic Island.
3The Excavation Site
The Excavation Site will be an annoying journey at any point during your adventure, as it encompasses the same long journey as the Volcanic Island Camp, but is even further out of the way.It pays to have a Portcrystal here for the true ending, so you can assist Henrique andcomplete Shepherd of the Pawnsshortly after you enter the Unmoored World.
Furthermore, you’ll find thatthe fifth Purgener boss spawns hereafter enough time has passed, or you’ve defeated the other four bosses. Save yourself a long, arduous journey later by placing a portcrystal here while chasing Talos duringThe Guardian Gigantus quest.

2Bakbattahl
A Bakbattahl portcrystal is necessary given this is acentral locationin Battahl with ahigh quest density, numerous shops, and proximity to other points of interest.
Bakbattahl is a bustling city in the middle of a barren desert, which alone would warrant placing your precious Portcrystal here, even without factoring in its other draws. Its central positioning makes it an excellent pivot point for several quests.
Traveling between Vernworth and Bakbattahl in the flash of a Ferrystone will make your experience with several late-game quests much smoother.Be sure to move your Portcrystal to Bakbattahlat some point before the final sequence so you may access this location easily when you must return to complete endgame quests.
Under a certain set of circumstances during the postgame, you will lose access to oxcart travel and Portcrystals will become your only mode of fast travel.
However, certain locations will automatically receive Portcrystals, so don’t worry about covering every spot.
1The Sphinx Shrines – Frontier & Mountain
If you plan tocomplete a Game of Wits by correctly answering the Sphinx’s riddles, you must use a Portcrystal for both shrine locations, particularly the Mountain Shrine. The journeys to these shrines are some of the most annoying in the game, so skipping the long return with a Ferrystone makes the riddles far less painstaking.
In addition, a Portcrystal at the Frontier Shrine will be essential for a later solution that requires you to bring an amphora to Ser Maurits in Battahl. Instead, you’re able to grab Ser Maurits and teleport to the Portcrystal with him, then place him next to the amphora to complete the riddle.
If you don’t do the riddle this way, you’ll have to carry the amphora for miles without breaking it, so skip the stress with a well-placed portcrystal.
