What Was The First Funko Pop?

Technically, there wasn’t a single first Funko Pop! as a few of them were revealed together at San Diego Comic-Con in 2010. The first line was based on the DC Comics Universe, as it included Green Lantern, Batgirl, and two versions of Batman. These would be the first of manyDC-based Funko Pops!, as the license is still used by Funko today.

However, the originals were slightly different from the Pops that come out now. For starters, they all had a basic stance with their arms by their sides and legs spread apart. Plus, they didn’t have as many details.

Also, they weren’t even called Funko Pops! back then. The brand went by the name Funko Force 2.0, which seems less fun and not as lighthearted. The packaging was a bit different, too, as some came in a plastic dome-style package instead of a traditional box.

What Was Funko’s First Collectible?

You may be wondering how Funko seemingly came out of nowhere to strike a deal with DC Comics and use their highly sought-after IP. Well, Funko Pops! might’ve been new in 2010, but Funko, the company, wasn’t. It had been around since the ’90s and made collectibles long before their successful Pop Vinyl line.

The first type of collectible Funko made was called Wacky Wobblers. These are figures a bit like Pops, except they’re leaner and have bobbleheads. The first of their kind was a Big Boy Bobblehead.
