They are your greatest ally and will help you take down powerful foes and find treasure chests hidden across the land. They are highly customizable and will compliment your play style or work in tandem with you.
Part of this customization includes your pawn’s inclination. This helps to shape their personality, but more than that, it impacts how they interact with the world around them. Each inclination has a vocation it’s better suited for, so here’s all you need to know about the different inclinations and what they do!

What Are Inclinations?
Pawns areyour go-to ally and companionas you pursue your destiny as the Arisen. Each inclinationaffects what your pawn doesand how they approach combat. The decision doesn’t need to be a permanent one, but it’s important to start out on the right foot to get the most out of your adventure.
There are four inclinations:calm, kindhearted, simple, and straightforward. Each serves a different vocation well, but all can bemixed and matchedto curate the best experience for you.
Recommended Vocation
Archer or Mage
Pawns that are calm willprioritize safety and survivalwhen in combat. They keep a level head and willlook after themselves, as well astaking the defensive or favoring ranged attacks. If food spoils in their inventory, they’ll get rid of it.
Be wary of giving them valuable items, as there’s a chance they will discard anything they can’t use to free up space.
If your pawn takes a vocation where health isn’t the priority, it’s wise to give them the calm inclination, as they cando more to assist you from a distance. If you have trouble keeping track of items and don’t mind a few missing things, they can alsohelp you stay somewhat organizedon the road.
Mage
If you’redesigning your pawn to provide support, being kindhearted is essential. A kindhearted pawn willprioritize healing and buffsto protect the Arisen at all costs. While not necessarily a healer, it does bode well for your pawn to pair the two together.
Buffs include imbuing your weapons with magic, so it’s worth bringing a kindhearted pawn with you!
You canalways hire a healer, but why not design one to your liking?Magic-based vocations benefit from being kindhearted, though you may wish to give them a different inclination based on your play style.
Any
The simple inclination isbest for finding loot and exploringthe world. These pawns arecurious by nature and will grab everythingin sight. Some will evenbreak boxes and other destructible itemsthey come across in their insatiable search for resources.
If you’re new to the Dragon’s Dogma series, this is a great inclination to choose while you learn the ropes.
If you have trouble finding items or just want to adventure with a friend that shares your interest, the simple inclination is for you. Itworks well with most vocationsand is a good place to start if youdon’t have any preferences.
Fighter
Pawns that are straightforward can be blunt, but they’re worthy allies. They’llgo all out in combat, which can leave them a bit worse for wear by the end of it. Even still, they’re quite useful and can help you take down powerful foes.
Straightforward pawns will draw the attention to themselves in combat.
While adventuring, your straightforward pawn may take off to find (or start) a fight. Regardless of what awaits them, they’ll embrace a challenge.
