As you explore the world ofDragon’s Dogma 2, you’ll likely often hear your pawn discussing a strange disease spread through the Rift that stops pawns from obeying their masters. While at first, this might just seem like some throwaway chatter lines, it is, in fact, very real — Dragonsplague can affect your pawns.
There are a few signs to look out for, and fortunately, it is curable. Leaving it to fester will result in dire consequences for your save file, so we recommend you don’t let it progress that far. We’ve got everything you need to know about Dragonsplague right here.

What Are The Symptoms And How Does It Spread?
The good news is,the very first time you encounter Dragonsplague will cause the game to throw up the promptabout it. So you’ll know without question the very first time one of your pawns has it and can make sure you cure them all.
After that first instance, you’ll just have to watch out for the signs. Pawns infected with Dragonsplague willbegin to disobey your commands, and a key sign of Dragonsplague is your pawns havingred eyes. The more advanced the virus is, the more theirred eyes will glow.

you may spot red eyes on pawns while in the Rift, but be aware players can also choose red as a natural colouration in the character creator, so red eyes alone are not an indicator of Dragonsplague.
The pawn we hired who was infected had red eyes while in the Rift, let’s call him Pawn Patient 0, had brown eyes once he was cured, so we know it wasn’t a natural occurrence. However, we also met plenty of red-eyed pawns in the Rift that did not carry disease.
Dragonsplague isspread from pawn to pawn, so when you hire an infected pawn, it canpotentially spread this to your other pawns.
It’s unclear where the disease originates, but there is evidence to suggest it’s related to thetrue endingdue to similarities between the Dragonsplague cutscene and the true ending cutscene.
This could mean players who have completed the game are more likely to spread it, but it’s not a guarantee. Having completed the game (all endings) quite some time ago, we did not encounter Dragonsplague until we hired another pawn with it.
How Can You Cure Dragonsplague?
There aretwo ways to cure Dragonsplague:
If you suspect any of your pawns have Dragonsplague, the best thing to do is to throw them all into the Brineand then resummon them again from a Riftstone, as killing them will wipe them clean of the disease.
What Happens If You Don’t Cure The Dragonsplague?
If youbattle a drakeor dragon with an infected pawn, the drake can use a move that willtake control of your pawn and use it against you in battle. If your pawn is a hefty damage dealer, this canreallyhurt.
However, by farthe worst outcome is that your pawn can butcher an entire village. This happens when you rest at an inn, meaning the game saves when it happens and you can’t simply go back to an old save to wind back time. You’re gonna need a lot ofWakestonesto revive all those poor, dead people.
Depending on where and when this happens, it means your pawn will likely kill NPCs that are crucial to continuing the storyline and so you will need to revive them before you can progress through the game.
How Long Does It Take For Your Pawns To Fully Lose Control?
Thisdoesn’t happen immediately, so if you’re paying attention to the signs, you should be able to spot it and cure your pawns before this outcome.
We chose to pursue this option on purpose (sorry, Harve Village) to try and work out the limits. Werested at the inn six times, during which Pawn Patient 0, who we hired from the rift, had infected our main pawn.
We then passed the days by other means, such as resting on benches untilanother six days had passed, but remember, these were not nights spent at an inn. At this point, ourmain pawn’s eyes werereallyglowing. Lo' and behold on our next visit to the inn, he decided to kill everyone in Harve.
We’re unsure if the other days that passed outside of the inn counted or not, soat a minimum, your pawn will unleash their fury on the village you’re staying in a week after a Dragonsplague pawn first joins your party.
After the cutscene, you’ll find most, if not all, of the people in the village or city dead and the game will pop up a message telling you the pawns who had Dragonsplague were sent back to the Rift (and so are now cured).
