Helldivers 2, while primarily designed for cooperative multiplayer, can be also be played alone if you’re not in the mood to drop with friends. While the game is not strictly speaking intended to be played this way, there are stillcertain tacticsyou can employ that will ensure the success of your mission and, hopefully, a long career after it.
These are some tips that can help you along that path. FromStrategemsand strategies, to loadouts and luck, planning ahead, picking your battles, and a little quick thinking will get you a long way in the harsh universe of Helldivers. Super Earth, and all of humanity, is counting on you.

8Be Quick
Be Efficient
Above all else, being quick is the surest way to know you have a chance of making it back to tell the tale of your adventure. To that end, knowledge of your tasks and the hurdles to your success are the best weapon you’ll have in your arsenal. This confidence will come in time, and the best way to learn is to play.
While every mission you embark on might not be initially a success, as you play you’ll slowly build up your repertoire of skills and knowledge of the game’s systems, ensuring a quick and speedy resolution to even the hardest of mission types.

7Stick To Main Objectives
Always Have A Plan
Secondary to speed is the ability to stick primarily to main objectives. Completing only what you must to finish a mission and ignoring all optional tasks will greatly streamline the process without taking any unnecessary risks that can quickly spiral out of control and tank the mission.
Getting in and getting out is the objective, and dawdling is the enemy. While it may betantalizing to explore, you must remember that you don’t have the luxury of a team to watch your back.

6Scout
When In Doubt, Scout It Out
Keeping an eye on your mini-map can ensure that you avoid enemy patrols, minimizing combat. The less time you spend fighting, the more time you can spend fulfilling objectives. The enemies, therefore, are really just a distraction.
Utilizing Stratagems such as the UAV can expand the area of effect of your mini-map, letting you plan out routes and avoid enemy patrols with greater aptitude. It may seem counter-intuitive, but picking your battles is one of the smartest options you have in your arsenal.

5The Guard Dog
Your New Best Friend
Meet your new best friend. Even if you’re playing alone, that doesn’t mean you aren’t entitled to a little companionship. Thus, the Guard Dog. This handy companion will help you out in fights in a pinch, providing some much-needed cover fire that wouldn’t otherwise be available when playing solo.
It isn’t all upsides, however, as this trigger-happy drone will make taking a stealthier approach that much harder. If you’re going to go in guns blazing, however, two is always better than one.

4Make Use Of Sentries
I Solve Practical Problems
If that wasn’t enough firepower, there’s also a wide array of sentry guns to choose from as well. These immobile turrets can take some of the slack off your shoulders during pitched fights, providing you with an opportunity to make your escape or even just buying time while you wait for extraction.
Whatever the case, it’s not a bad idea to take a couple of these alone for use in a pinch, as even the best laid plans have a tendency to quickly go awry.

3Choose Your Battles
Sun Tzu Would Be Proud
Mission in Helldivers 2 are divided by the unique objectives you will be tasked with completing within each one. These can vary widely in both content and the types of enemies you’ll be facing, and they range from elimination missions, to sabotage, to completing geological surveys.
As such, careful consideration of the risks of each of these mission types before even embarking upon them is a wise decision. Certain missions, such as spreading democracy, are relatively straightforward, while missions that task you with defeating powerful foes may want to be avoided when playing solo.

2Run
Live To Fight Another Day
So you’ve had a string of bad luck and the enemies are closing in around you. You’ve used up all of your Stratagems, are running low on ammo, and defeat looks to be looming on the horizon. In events such as these, the best option may be to simply run away.
Getting out of a bad situation will give you time to reevaluate the mission, make use of whatever resources you have left, and, hopefully, figure out a way to complete your objective. If not, there’s always next time.

1Use EMS
Hammer Time
While you can’t stop time in Helldivers 2, making use of weapons with the EMS effect is the next best thing. When caught in one of the electromagnetic field created by these, enemies will be stunned, leaving you with the opportunity to pick them off or make your escape.
When used in conjunction with other Stratagems, such as mortar sentries, this can create a deadly trap that will take out even the most sturdy of enemies, or at the very least take up some of their time.
