25 years ago, Time putPokemonon the cover of its iconic magazine. That might sound like a good thing, but it wasn’t. In the wake of Pokemon’s very first movie, Time questioned whether its grip on the world, particularly children, through video games and trading cards was a good thing. Fast forward to 2024, Pokemon is back on the cover of Time, but this time, the publication has nothing but good things to say about the franchise.
Time’s latest issue has four different covers, the idea being that Pokemon fans catch ‘em all. The Pokemon on those covers are exactly the ones you’d expect to see heading up a crossover as significant as this one. Pikachu and the Kanto starters, Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. The four Pokemon that even your grandma could probably name, or at least identify as Pokemon next time she walks past a newsstand.
The best news of all is you don’t need to happen upon a newsstand to find these special edition Pokemon Time magazines. They’re available to buy onAmazonthrough the link below for $14.99. The issue pictured on the store page is the Pikachu one, and there doesn’t appear to be an option to select which cover you get. It seems to be a lottery and if you buy one, you may well end up with any of the four covers. A potential tripping point for any of you hoping to own all four.

The silver lining is regardless of the cover you end up with, the content of the magazine is the same. That’s right, Time has done more than just slap the world’s most famous Pokemon on its cover. It’s talking all things Pokemon within its pages too, and rather than disparage the series like it did in 1999, it’s celebrating its success.
