Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthhas a staggering 14 Chapters for you to tackle in its massive world. And, with most of them being pretty hearty regarding their length and content, you will be kept busy for quite a while when making your way through it.
Chapter 7, Those Left Behind, is a prime example of this, as it follows Cloud and the rest of the gang’s climb up Mount Corel. The scale of this mission is tremendous, as you will fight many grotesque creatures on your ascent and encounter many emotional and impactful moments along the way. Strap in, as this is a hefty one!
Ascending Mount Corel
With their sights on the Corel Reactor, the squad has totrek up Mount Corel,which takes much more effort than you may think, even if your initial thought is that it will be rough.
So, after the events that transpire with Hojo on the beach of Costa del Sol, you mustacquire a Chocobo for 300 Gilfrom theRent-a-Bird Stablesnear the Red Wheelie station. From here, follow the waypoint until you reach thebase of Mount Corel.It’s only up from here!
Climbing Mount Corel
After acquiring your Chocobo,head toward the waymarkuntil you reach the large ‘Hiking Trail’ sign above an open doorway. Move toward it to activate a cutscene. Push a bit forward after this to get another cutscene, havingCloud, Aerith, and Red XIIIstay behind,locking them as your active partyfor quite some time.
As this party, you will be tasked toclimb this enormous mountain,fighting offSpearhawks and Sandhog Piesalong the way.Follow the waymark and hand-drawn markers from Yuffieto slowly ascend Mount Corel.Heading off the beaten path will grant you some goodies in Chests,so be sure to explore every nook and cranny you can!
Near the end of your hike,you will find anolder man resting on a rock.Speak to him if you wish, and then keeppressing forward.Here, you will encountertwo Begnadranas,vastly more challenging monsters than anything else you faced on your journey up the mountain. They areweak to Blizzard but are impervious to all attacks from behind.
Following your encounter with the two Begnadranas, you will find aResting Spota little ways ahead. Make sure torest up here, stock up on any itemsyou need, andlevel up your Foliosif you can, as your next encounter will be a doozy.
Custom Valkyrie Boss Fight
Movingslightly ahead from the Resting Spot,you will encounter theTurks,namelyRude and Elena,who release a handful of ‘Robes’ from their chopper before summoning in theCustom Valkyrie.Thisboss encounter can be a handful,but we have you covered if you need help with taking it down!
Zack Interlude
Upon defeating the Custom Valkyrie, you will transition into ashort interlude with Zack Fair.This is avery linear and straightforwardsection, so justfollow the waypointsto complete it!
Corel Mako Reactor
Next, after the Zack interlude,Cloud, Aerith, and Red XIII will meet up with the others,allowing you topush onward to the Corel Mako Reactor.Once here,follow the waypointuntil a cutscene plays out, having the squad move a bit forward to the Preparation Plant.
Preparation Plant
With the trudge up the steep Mount Corel behind us, Cloud finds himself a bit… unwell. Thedrawbridge on the mine rails has also been raised,impeding the team’s progress. As a result,Yuffie, Tifa, and Barret push through the Preparation Plantto lower the drawbridge while Aerith and Red XIII keep Cloud company as he recovers.
Grappling Hook Acquired
Nowin control of Yuffie,you are tasked to navigate through the Preparation Plant with Barret and Tifa at your side. So,follow the waypoint into the plantto find yourself a Grappling Hook,which will be immensely helpful throughout this entire section!
Activating Conveyors: Part One
Immediately after picking up the Grappling Hook,look to the leftto see a giant ‘L2’ interaction prompt. Look up to see atattered blue rag wrapped around a pole,signifying you’re able to grapple onto it. Use your Grappling Hook toswing over the large pit in the ground toward the Purple Chest and the lever.
Throw the lever to activate the Conveyors,and be sure toopen the Chestto obtain theTwin Viperweapon for Yuffie! - After this,grapple back to Barret and Tifa and take the Conveyorsto the next area!
Activating The Elevator: Part One
Once in the following area, you will see that theElevator is out,and the only way to activate it is with Yuffie and her newly obtained Grappling Hook.Follow the waypointuntil you see agrapple point high above you,over a large pit.Use this toreach the small patch of land in front of you,just beyond the rift.
Next,turn around and face the grapple point you just usedto find evenmore grapple points to the rightof it. Grapple onto the one to the right of the previous one you used, andgrapple from point to pointuntil you reach a Yellow Chest.
Open the Yellow Chestto obtain a piece ofZinc Ore,thengrapple once more to jump onto the climbable walldirectly in front of you.Ascend the wall until you reach the top,take down theSpearhawksthat await you, thenuse the terminaltoactivate the Elevatorand bring Tifa and Barret up to your location!
Activating Coveyors: Part Two
Moving forward from here, you will find aziplineyou can take to thenext area.Once there, you will have tofight a few Heatseekersbut will be rewarded with aResting Areaupon defeating them. After your much-needed rest,push onward and head down the stepsto findtwo Cockatrices.
Now, while the Heatseekers are relatively harmless, theseCockatrices pack a punch and can be extremely annoying,so proceed with caution. They areweak to Firebut can reallyonly be Pressured and StunnedbyBlocking their melee attacksandevadingtheir ‘Swoop’ and ‘Cock-a-Doodle-Kick’ attacks.
With the Cokcatrices defeated,move onward to find a grapple pointnear the scaffolding in front of you.Grapple to this point and take the others around the lefthand sideof the area andonto the sizeable swiveling pointjust beyond the scaffolding you encounter earlier.
Swing back and forth to move the structure forward,thenleap off onto the ground where the lever iswhenever possible.Throw the leverand swim back to where Tifa and Barret are, thentake the now-active Coveyersto the next area!
Activating The Elevator: Part Two
After taking the Conveyors up, you willinstantly have to fight another Cockatrice and a Spearhawk;both arehandled the same wayyou defeated them earlier.Push onwardto find anotherinactive Elevator.To theright of it will be a lever you’re able to activateby throwing Yuffie’s shuriken at it.
Upon activating the lever, alarge beam will descend from above,enabling Yuffie tograpple onto it.Do this, andeventually, it will begin lifting,enabling Yuffie tograpple to other points.Continue doing this until youfind yourself on solid ground with another switchin front of you.
As you did before,toss your shuriken at the switch to activate yet another grapple pointand grapple onto it tohave it carry Yuffie toward the large cog-like structure.Once near the cog-like structure, grapple onto it andswing back and forth on it to inch toward the leverin the middle. You cankick the switch with enough maneuvering,bringing down yet another grapple point.
Take this grapple point and use it to reach the area abovewhere you initially emerged, only to be greeted by aBombenemy.Dealing enough damageto it when it is ‘Breathing Fire’ willPressureit; otherwise, it can be a real hassle to deal with, as it has no weaknesses. So, good luck!
After defeating the Bomb,activate the terminal to activate the Elevator,bringing Barret and Tifa up to Yuffie’s location once more. Be sure touse the Resting Spotto your benefit here, as the subsequent encounter will be a tough battle!
Gigatrice Boss Fight
With Tifa and Barret back with Yuffie and after a much-needed rest,proceed onwarduntil you encounter theGigatrice boss.Thisencounter can be fierce and annoying,but, like earlier,we have the answers you need to take it down!
Lowering The Drawbridge
After defeating the Gigatrice and meeting Cloud Junior, you cansafely lower the drawbridge,triggering a cutscene where Barret will call the others to inform them of their progress. You are on the final stretch now!
North Corel Bound
We are nearing the completion of this chapterand have triumphantly hiked up Mount Corel and carved our way through the Preparation Plant. Now, all that’s left is tomake it to North Corel and use the lift to go to the Gold Saucer!
Crossing The Drawbridge
With the drawbridge now lowered, you willresume control of Cloud,which Aerith and Red XIII will accompany.Head across the now-lowered drawbridge and follow the waypointuntil you reach a lever.
Switching The Cart Tracks
Throwing this leverwillswitch the mine tracks to a safer and sturdier ride,whichYuffie will approveof whileleaving it alone will make it the exact opposite,whichBarret favors.Depending on your choice,this will give you positive affinity toward Barret or Yuffie,so choose wisely!
After making this decision,follow the waymark up the mine tracksto find anotherBombenemy. It will behandled the same wayas before.
Cart Mini-Game
With the Bomb enemy defeated,push onwardtofind another phoneand use it tocall Barret and the othersto inform them that the track has been set and cleared for them to come down. After a brief cutscene, you canhop into the minecart and ride it downto where Cloud and the others are, activating ashort mini-gamealong the way!
Arriving In North Corel
With the squad back together,keep moving forward, cross the long wooden bridge, and enter North Corel.You can tackle a few side objectives here, but it won’t really open up until much later!
Talk To Doctor Shieran
Once you’re in North Corel,Tifa will mention wanting to visit somewhere specific.Follow her into thehospitalto meetDoctor Shieran.After abrief cutscene,you will befree to travel to The Gold Sauceror can pick up another side-quest on behalf of Doctor Shieran.
Leaving For The Gold Saucer
After speaking with Doctor Shieran,head toward the waypoint to reach the cable cars.Call them totrigger another cutscene that dives a bit into Barret’s past,having the crewjump aboard the cable car,taking it toThe Gold Saucer,and ending this very, very long chapter!
