Based on the comic book of the same name,The Walking Deadtook the world by storm. For 11 seasons, the zombie apocalypse TV show incited horror, with plenty of action, death, and character drama throughout. Naturally, the success of the show spawned several spinoffs and continuations.

Keeping track of those spinoffs and trying to figure out where they all fit in can be a tricky task. Some of the shows take place before the main Walking Dead TV Show, others occur concurrently, and some take place afterward. Additionally, some of the shows focus on new characters and locations, adding lore and world building, while others continue the stories and adventures of pre-existing characters. It can all be very confusing and daunting to venture into.

Tales Of The Walking Dead

Tales of the Walking Dead is an anthology series, with each episode focusing on different characters, in different settings, across the Walking Dead timeline.

For the most part, the stories and characters are new and original, but there areepisodes that put focus on familiar names and faces.

Samantha Morton reprized her role as Alpha from the main The Walking Dead show. Her episode acts as an origin story for her character, prior to her becoming the villainous leader of The Whisperers later in life. One episode also plays around with time, adding a science fiction twist to the series.

A followup series, cleverly entitledMore Tales from The Walking Dead, continues the anthology-style storytellingof the first season, with new characters, new stories, new locations, and more zombie killing.

The big difference is thatMore Tales From The Walking Dead is a series of shorts, rather than full-length episodes.

Set years after the events of The Walking Dead, Dead City sees Maggie traveling to New York, the titular Dead City. She’s in search of her son, who has been kidnapped by a villainous group. To retrieve her son, she teams up with a long-time enemy, Negan, to infiltrate the city and take down the gang.

Dead City has theleading duo butting heads over past decisions, rekindling their rivalry. Meanwhile, new law enforcers are hunting down Negan for his past actions, and gangs and factions within the city itself are vying for power and freedom.

Dead City wasthe first spinoff filmed after the end of the main show. It also had a significantly shorter episode length than past shows, withonly six episodes.

Plus, the new location of New York City added a fresh spin on things. Initally,it was set to be a miniseries, but after its success it was turned into an ongoing series.

After the events of The Walking Dead,Daryl ventured out on his own, returning to his nomad roots. He finds himself washed up in France, with no memory of how he got there. His adventure sees him uniting with a nun, discovering just how and why he is there, and that there may be hope for the future.

Daryl Dixon introduces the character ofLaurent, who is believed to be the next Messiah, due to his birth occurring while his mother was bitten.

The show presents Daryl with a quest of identity and purpose, ashe is tasked with transporting Laurent across France, to a group who can keep the boy safe. But, rival factions intercept them, and new, scientifically modified zombies pose a greater threat.

The show wasinitially supposed to feature the double act of Daryl and Carol. But, due to scheduling issues, Melissa McBride was unable to film in France.

She did, however, appear as Carol as a voice in one episode, and in person in the first season finale.

The second season of Daryl Dixon issubtitled The Book of Carol, signifying her return to the series in a more prominent role.

After he sacrifices himself to save those he loves in Season 9 of the main show,Rick Grimes is washed ashore, injured, and beaten. He was then taken in a helicopter to an undisclosed locationand was never seen or heard from again.

As seen in Season 10 of the main show, Michonne, the love he left behind, never gave up hope, however, and has nowventured across the country to be reunited with Rick.

Initially conceived as a movie, or a series of movies, The Ones Who Live was then reconfigured intoa miniseries that would conclude the story of Rick and Michonne.

The story isset between the events of Season 10 and the finale of Season 11of The Walking Dead.

A new villain, Beale, played by Terry O’Quinn, is introduced, and Pollyanna McIntosh returns as Jadis.
