Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthmarks the return of many popular and well-known characters from the Final Fantasy 7 saga. Many of the character moments and scenarios played have never been given the HD graphics treatment due to how long ago the original game was.
Areas such as Cosmo Canyon and the Gold Saucer are big highlights. It’s also great to see the characters interact, giving their many memorable moments from the original game a new look and voice. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth alsoreintroduces the rest of the cast and party members we all know and love, from Yuffie to Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind.
11Cloud Strife
Voiced By Cody Christian
The game’s main protagonist, Cloud Strife, is back with an arsenal of large swords to pursue the mysterious Sephiroth and stop his plans to destroy the world with his companions along the way. Along the way, he’s driven into a mysterious plot that weaves the different fates of his companions together.
Cody Christian, who voiced Cloud in the first installment of the Remake trilogy, has returned to portray him. He did a great job voicing Cloud and keeping his voice and mannerisms similar to his first voice actor, Steve Burton, who voiced the character in previous iterations of the series. Cody kept Cloud broody and serious but retained much of his sense of humor as well.
10Tifa Lockhart
Voiced By Britt Baron
Britt Baron returns to voice Tifa Lockhart in the continuing adventure of the team from Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Before her role as Tifa, Britt Baron was a prominent actress in voice and live acting, lending her talent to Destiny 2’s Ada-1, Dishonored’s Witches, and Star Wars: Jedi Survivor as Gabs.
Tifa Lockhart is a very important character in helping Cloud uncover the truth behind Sephiroth’s plan as well as recovering his true memories due to the fracturing of his identity. She is alsoa prominent fighterand is versatile in actions and movements, making her a force on the battlefield.
9Barret Wallace
Voiced By John Eric Bentley
John Eric Bentley voices the gun-armed leader of Avalance. Before his role as Barret, he had done a lot of voice acting work in video games and animated shows, fromStarfieldand otherFinal Fantasygames to being the animated voice for Marvel’s Nick Fury.
In the original media of the compilation of Final Fantasy 7, Barret’s voice and mannerisms are very similar to Mr. T. For his vocal work, John E Bentley maintained his strong and aggressive voice but subdued his mannerisms enough to keep his take on Barret unique. His past before hiring Cloud and getting his new arm is also explored in Rebirth.
8Aerith Gainsborough
Voiced By Briana White
Of all the characters in the setting of Final Fantasy 7, Aerith has had the most different voice actors. Briana White takes her first major voice role very well and has been the most consistent voice ofthe last Cetra. Before her role as Aerith, Briana White appeared and acted in numerous roles for TV films, shows, and cinema shorts.
Her vocal depiction of Aerith is a slight combination of her cheerfulness in the original Crisis Core by Andrea Bowman and the softness she had in Advent Children by Mena Suvari. Aerith’s role as the last Cetra is made very important by this point in the story of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth because of her access to the ancient past and knowledge of critical plot points.
7Cait Sith
Voiced By Paul Tinto
Accomplished actor Paul Tinto is here to voice the cat robot Cait Sith, who is reintroduced as a recruitable member of the party. Cait Sith is one of Paul’s first major voice roles. Before this role, he was mostly a prominent live actor in TV shows like The Crown, Guilt, and The Last Post. He has also done several shorts and straight-to-TV films.
Cait Sith has a mysterious connection with the electric power company Shinra, and his motives for being with the party are mostly a mystery. For the most part, he plays the role of a scrappy companion with funny quirks, abilities, and dialogue moments. Once the reveal occurs, he undergoes his character arc that is expanded on from the original game.
6Cid Highwind
Voiced By J. Michael Tatum
J. Michael Tatum is the voice of the Airship pilot, Cid Highwind. He has a very large resume of roles in voice acting for video games likeFire Emblem Engage,Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and Starfield as Marcel Duris. He is also a very prominent voice actor in anime and animated works such as Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, RWBY, and an animated video by Vtuber Ironmouse.
He retains much of Cid’s original personality as a lover of flight and a snarky man with a tendency to curse like a sailor. Instead of being a playable member of the party like in the original game, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has Cid being an NPC that helps the party navigate around the continent during the near endgame.
5Yuffie Kisaragi
Voiced By Suzie Yeung
Known for many of her roles in anime since the ’90s, Suzie Yeung resumes her role as the hyperactive ninja andMateria thief, Yuffie Kisaragi. Suzie Yeung brings the charm and the energy of the character, serving as the main comic relief that balances the drama throughout the game.
In the original game, Yuffie was an optional character who could be recruited early on after completing her side quests. As a result, she wasn’t involved much in the main story of the original game. In Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Yuffie joins automatically after being rescued from the Terror of the Deep and remains involved throughout the story.
4Vincent Valentine
Voiced By Matthew Mercer
Matthew Mercer voices the enigmatic Vincent Valentine. His work includes writing and being the Dungeon Master of Critical Role, and portraying a wide array of characters in video games and anime, from Leon Kennedy inResident Evilto Levi from Attack on Titan.
Like Yuffie, Vincent Valentine was an optional character in the original Final Fantasy 7 that you come across when exploring the underground research area of Nibelheim. In Rebirth, he is not available as a permanent party member, but there are several hints and moments that allude to his future role in the third and final installment of the Remake trilogy.
3Red XIII
Voiced By Max Mittelman
After being a guest party member in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Red XIII is officially a stay-in member of the group in this installment. His voice actor is Max Mittleman, who is also the voice of Saitama from the anime One-Punch Man and has dozens of additional roles in games likeThe Last of UsandOctopath Traveler.
Red XIII is a mysterious part dog part cat creature that was captured by Shinra for experiments. In the original game, he joins the party officially much earlier than in the Remake saga, where he doesn’t become an official member of the team until Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Because he didn’t have much dialogue in the old media, Max Mittleman gave Red XIII a youthful disposition, which allows him to interact with the other characters in funny and character-building moments.
2Zack Fair
Voiced By Caleb Pierce
First-class Soldier and Cloud’s best friend during his military years with Shinra. Zack is voiced by Caleb Pierce, who is known for his live-action roles in Big Bang Theory, Roommates, and Astrid Clover. Portraying Zack Fair throughout the new Final Fantasy 7 storyline is his first major voice-acting role, and he’s done a great job portraying him based on previous media.
Zack Fair is the primary protagonist of the Final Fantasy 7 prequel Crisis Core, which follows his journey from second to first class Soldier, his friendship with Cloud, and the tragic events that lead to Cloud inheriting the Buster Sword from Zack in the end. Odd plotlines and twists cause him to survive his doomed fate andmake him a deuteragonist, with his own story going side-to-side with the main scenario.
