Crisis Core fans will recognize Cissnei in a heartbeat, and we think we speak for many of our fellow fans when we say that we’re gladFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirthaddresses the Elphadunk in the room: where the heck did Cissnei go? Even better, Cissnei pops up prominently in the main story and side quests, including ‘The Spice of Life’.

The Spice of Life runs roughshod with that most time-honored of tropes: a hopeless chef and a pot full of questionable soup. Cissnei will need great Magonga Mushrooms, and we’re here to tell you how to get them. Plot twist - there’s a mini-game.

How To Begin The Spice Of Life

Getting started with The Spice of Life is easy enough.Finish the main story events at the Gongaga Reactor, as the quest giver,Cissnei, won’t be in her house having a hecking bad time cooking soup until then.

Swing on by, and bear in mind thatThe Spice of Life has a level 35 recommendation. Many side quests have level recommendations, while others say ‘Any’;you’ll be facing some fiends, so 35 seems like a reasonable aim to handle them with ease.

Torgan and Malon at their farm with Aerith and Cloud in FF7 Rebirth

Getting The Rock Salt

Step outsidewhen you’re ready. Say hello toTorgan’s dog, Melon. We need tofollow Melon to Torgan’s farm, where the curmudgeon will bust Aerith’s chops for a bit before relenting.Melon will lead us to the Gongaga Rock Salt; he’ll automatically set off again after the scene.

Compare thepicture of the rock saltto what you see. There’s a rather stark difference between the correct rock salt deposits and the wrong ones.Check the mini-map,as the deposits you’re searching for areall within a marked circular radius.

We felt like the writing was a touch unclear here - it felt like we were done with the rock salt bit after grabbing the first, but you’ll needthree deposits worth of rock saltto progress.

Getting The Magonga Mushrooms

Make tracks forMagon Hill, anduse the mushroom springboardswhilefollowing the scents your chocobo detectsin the area. Don’t worry - it’s quite a scent, and it won’t fade away mid-catapulting.

There will bemonsters to reckon withnear each mushroom, thoughnone are any tougher than the usual stock.(Well, maybe atadtougher.) There’s no time limit or any other eccentric twists.

Cissnei high fiving Aerith-1

A mini-game tutorial pops up, and at least at the time we’re writing this, FF7 Rebirth’s a PS5 exclusive, so we feel like we can reasonably state thatit’ll always involvethe DualSense controller’s haptic feedback feature.

Getting a real feel for the’springiness' of the Magonga mushroomscan be difficult, andyou might receive less of an affinity boost with Aerith if you deliver poorer-quality ones, so honestly?Save the gamebefore engaging with each one. Save yourself the hassle here.

Mushroom Magic!
