It’s fairly common knowledge now that there are several, very bigFinal Fantasy 14fans on the development team forThe Sims 4. It seems there are some working on the title that do everything they can to work in a cheeky reference to the critically-acclaimed MMORPG whenever they can, and they definitely had plenty of opportunities in the recently released Crystal Creations Stuff Pack that was released earlier this week.
The pack itself contains a number of cool items, and enough crystals to give Clive Rosfield heart palpitations, but there’s one particular item that has drawn the attention of Final Fantasy 14 fans, that being the “Spire-Shaped Gemstone”. It’s a pretty unassuming name at first glance, but check the item’s description, and you’ll see some pretty familiar terms if you’re a Final Fantasy 14 fan.Beware of spoilers for A Realm Reborn and Shadowbringers going forward.
First spotted by Reddit user Zuke88, the description reads “Your own mini crystal tower that an exarch would be proud of”, which is a pretty clear reference to the Crystal Tower quest series and Alliance Raids you undertake with Cid and G’raha Tia towards the end of A Realm Reborn. Not only is the Crystal Tower just the name of the spire you’re trying to infiltrate, but it’s also a reference to G’raha Tia himself, who you eventually find out is the Crystal Exarch in Shadowbringers.
It’s not at all surprising to find a reference like this in The Sims 4, especially in a Stuff Pack full of crystal-themed objects, because there have been plenty of references included in past expansions. One very popular example was in the Growing Together expansion that was released in early 2023, as you could set up racks that featured drawings children made, one of whichfeatured a blue swallow on a starry night background. We can almost definitely assume this won’t be the last reference either, especially with the release of Dawntrail later this year giving the devs on The Sims 4 plenty of new material. Unfortunately, we still don’t know the release date for the expansion, but given it’ssupposed to launch this Summer, we’ll probably get one sooner rather than later.
