Summary

When it comes to completingSonicgames, there’s way more involved than just finding all seven Chaos Emeralds. Segaensures that completionists get plenty of bang for their buck, providing plenty of collectibles to find, challenging missions to beat, and many S-ranks to achieve across the Sonic series. Add that to the fact that many games have multiple campaigns, and the fastest thing alive will have to work extra hard to see everything these titles offer.

The following Sonic games are ranked based on their estimated completion times.

Launch Date

July 04, 2025

Collectibles and Sonic don’t always go well together, as proven bythe largely overlooked Sonic Advance 2.To fully complete the game, you must collect every Chaos Emerald as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Cream by finding seven well-hidden special rings in any given level, reaching the goal without dying, and beating the special stage.

This task is a nightmare to complete with Sonic, who lacks any abilities that help with exploration. Plus, you lose all the special rings you’ve found if you die, which is likely to happen due to the overabundance of bottomless pits. Once you finally reach the special stage, you get one chance to beat it; otherwise, you have to find the rings all over again.

Sonic riding a jet ski in Sonic Rush Adventure

Jun 15, 2025

Completing Sonic Rush Adventure is headache-inducing thanks to every gamer’s worst nightmare - grinding. The Blue Blur has four vessels he can ride to explore the ocean, and each can be upgraded twice by gathering materials. These resources are obtained by beating levels, meaning you must replay stages several times to collect enough.

On top of that, you need to find and beat a whopping 100 missions to complete the game. These include brutal time trials that require you to speedrun each stage perfectly. Don’t forget to hunt down all seven Chaos and Sol Emeralds as well.

Sonic giving a thumbs up in Emerald Coast from Sonic Adventure

July 28, 2025

Sonic Adventurehas 130 emblems spread across three overworlds and 32 levels, each with two alternative objectives outside the main one. Knuckles' ‘A’ missions are especially frustrating, since most require you to find all Master Emerald shards in under a minute. Since the pieces spawn in random locations, your success depends entirely on RNG.

But nothing compares to the mind-melting task of completing Big’s ‘B’ and ‘A’ objectives, where you must catch a 1,000-gram and 2,000-gram fish, respectively. These sea creatures fight you to the bitter end. Even if you fully upgrade the fishing rod, it’s incredibly easy for your line to break, requiring you to start all over.

Sonic turning into the Werehog in Sonic Unleashed

June 02, 2025

Sonic games are usually difficult to complete due to grinding, excessive collectibles, or ruthless missions. Sonic Unleashed has all three. There are 59 videotapes, 62 vinyl records, 71 art books, and 400 medals hidden across the levels. Since this is one of the fastest Sonic games, it’s easy to speed past each item without realizing it.

You need to replay stages multiple times to earn enough experience points to max out all seven stats and find enough rings to buy all 45 souvenirs from Professor Pickle. You must also get an S-rank in every level, beat 77 town missions, and complete 123 Hot Dog Vendor challenges, including many infuriating time trials.

Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles in Casino Park from Sonic Heroes

July 08, 2025

Let’s hope you like Sonic Heroes because you need to beat it four times for full completion. There are 120 emblems to collect, many of which are unlocked by completing extra-difficult variations of each level. The hardest of these are Team Chaotix’s alternative missions, since several require you to beat the stage without being seen by an enemy.

If you want to collect all seven Chaos Emeralds, brace yourself for a merciless challenge. To unlock special stages, you must find a hidden key in act two of any given zone and bring it to the goal. The catch? If you get hit, the key vanishes, and you may need to replay the entire level to try again.

Sonic and Shadow jumping into the air in Sonic Adventure 2

June 10, 2025

In addition to featuring some ofthe series' most difficult bosses, Sonic Adventure 2 has plenty of tough missions to torment completionists. Each stage has five objectives - reach the goal, collect 100 rings, find the lost Chao, beat the time trial, and complete the level in hard mode. You must do all these flawlessly to get perfect A-ranks for each.

If you’re going for 100 percent, you have to collect all 180 emblems, several of which can only be obtained outside the story mode. On top of completing three bosh rush modes, you must also raise a Chao, boost its stats, and enter it in races and karate tournaments to get the last few emblems. Get ready for a ton of grinding.

Shadow standing in front of the moon in Shadow the Hedgehog

June 21, 2025

Beating Shadow the Hedgehog doesn’t take too long, since each playthrough has only six levels. However, your decisions throughout the story can unlock five branching paths, each with two possible endings. If you’re going for full completion, you need to beat the game ten times to see every outcome and unlock the true final boss.

This is made even harder by many tedious missions, like defeating every single enemy in the stage or collecting 400 rings. You’ll likely need to backtrack to find everything you need to complete the objective. As if that weren’t enough, you must also get A-ranks for every level. You had better get used to these stages because you’ll be seeing them a lot.
