Summary
Despite the stakes and drama,Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthis also filled with some of the funniest moments in gaming. It’s on par with Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth in its mixture of tear-jerking moments and laugh-out-loud jokes. The funny moments below show how humor is integrated into the world.
These aren’t inane and absurd moments that don’t fit into the game’s reality; this is how the world is. It reminds us of the best Terry Gilliam movies in how they always manage to dive into serious themes while fully embracing the absurdity of their worlds and never neglecting funny character-building moments.

8Red XIII Disguised As A Human
Red XIII boards the cruiseship to Costa del Solwithout any disguise. The game tricks us into thinking him in a Shinra Uniform is a line they won’t cross when it comes to recreating moments from the original game.
Then, the game jumps so far over the line that it circumnavigates the world and crosses it again when Red XIII shows up in a Shinra Uniform to playQueen’s Bloodafter being denied access to the tournament for being an animal. He moonwalks to the center of the crowd, and the comedy is topped off by a shot of a child crying and calling for his mother at the sight of the party member in a human outfit.
7Gus
In the original game, the gang below the Gold Saucer that getsCloud into the Chocobo raceis a handful of unremarkable thugs. In Rebirth, Gus introduces himself by bursting into the room and dancing around while the soundtrack blares his theme song, lyrics, and all.
There was no need to take this much time to flesh out a character who is a small part of one chapter, but it makes us laugh knowing the desert under the Gold Saucer is controlled by such a colorful personality.
6Cloud Feeling Nervous About Chest Compressions
Instead of Cloud giving CPR to a little girl underneath Junon, it is Yuffie who is knocked unconscious by the monster that attacks the town. Rhonda is about to give mouth-to-mouth and instructs Cloud to give Yuffie chest compressions.
However, he hesitates as his hands are floating above Yuffie and she wakes up. Thinking he has perverse intentions, she yells and rolls away before realizing there is a whole crowd around and he is helping to save her life.
5Barret Crying About Marlene
While delivering a dog to Rhonda’s son, Barret talks about raising Marlene and whether or not he’ll be able to let her go once she is old enough to set out on her own.
He says he’ll be cool about it but then breaks down crying as he admits that he might not be able to let her become an adult. He’s sobbing before Cloud tells him to snap out of it. It’s funny, but it’s also a great character moment many parents can probably relate to.
4Chadley Turning Down Mai
Mai is a new AI built by Chadley in his image. She’s almost exactly like him but has a more feminine appearance. Chadley almost discovers how annoying he is to some players when he starts to turn Mai’s volume down as she’s talking to the party.
It’s akin to the classic gag of pretending your phone’s connection is breaking up by making static sounds with your mouth while hanging up. We don’t see much of Mai except for the hunting side quests, but maybe that will change in the third part.
3Kid G
The protorelic quest you will experience in the Corel desert underneath the Gold Saucer has you meet Kid G in person, which looks and kind of sounds like Parapa the Rappa.
When the party is shocked at his ability to talk, he points out that it shouldn’t be too surprising considering who is in the party. The camera then cuts to Red XIII, and while the logic is certainly sound, let’s not forget that there’s also a talking robotic cat in the party.
2Cloud Commanding Shinra Troopers
Chapter Four not only sees you disguising yourself as a Shinra officer, but Cloud also has to recruit a bunch of soldiers to his squad for the parade. Once Yuffie tries to assassinate Rufus and everything goes awry, Cloud fights side by side with the Shinra troopers.
As Cloud escapes Junon and parts ways with the troops, they bring up that the intruders are disguised as Shinra officers, and just as Cloud starts apologizing and is about to whip out the Buster Sword, the soldiers calm him down and tell him not to take such a joke so far. The fact a gag like this is integrated into the main story shows how much this humor is simply a part of the world.
1A Bar Exclusively For Bald People
If you walk around Junon you’re able to find a bunch of little details such as a jazz Band, a movie marque, Elena sulking in her sorrows, and a bar that caters exclusively to bald people.
As you enter the bar in your disguises, everyone inside turns their attention to the party and sneers at their headwear, contemplating whether or not they are bald or not. Rude from the Turks is the most familiar face within the establishment, and while the idea of a bar for bald people is fun, the patrons take it very seriously.
