As is the case with many traditionalrole-playing games, status effects play a key role in determining the flow of combat inPersona 3 Reload. Status ailments can be inflicted upon you by enemies, or onto enemies by you.
Many status effects are the same acrossdifferent entriesin the series, and carry over fromolder versionsof the game. These status effects last until they arecuredor are recovered from. These status ailments have a variety of effects, whether they beelemental effectssuch as poison that will damage health over time, or ‘emotional’ effects that can turn the tide of battle by manipulating enemy behavior. In this list, we’ll explore some of the most useful of these status ailments, as well as their effects.

Ice Age

When inflicted with the Frozen status effect, affected enemies will be forced to skip their turn, along with the reduction of their Evasion level to zero. This status effect lasts for a single turn, after which the enemy will return to their regular state.

When Frozen, critical hits are more likely to land. The Freeze status effect can be inflicted on enemies by using skills like Bufula and Mabufula, along with other skills that are in the Ice category of attacks.

When inflicted with the Distress status ailment, an enemy’s defense stat will be lowered, along with their evasion rate being lowered to zero. Additionally, both Light and Darkness based spells will have particular efficacy on enemies inflicted with Distress.

When ambushed, enemies that are significantly lower in level than you will be automatically inflicted with the Distress effect. It can be inflicted by moves such as Bewilder and Eerie Sound, and dispelled by Patra and Me Patra. This affliction is best used in conjunction with alarger strategy.

Panic, in a nutshell, removes the ability to cast spells or otherwise use Persona. When inflicted with Panic, enemies will have an additional weakness tocritical hits. Panic can be inflicted by Pulinpa and Tentarafoo, and, as with Distress, be dismissed by use of Patra and Me Patra.

Enemies inflicted with the Panic status can still make use of their turns, however, including the ability to use an item to cure themselves of the ailment. This status effect is best used on enemies with a proclivity for casting spells.
Wild Thunder
The Shock status ailment will temporarily stun enemies who are afflicted by it, thereby taking up their turn for that respective round. This effect goes hand-in-hand with damaging them, as well as ensuring that any attack that hits them will become a critical hit.
This effect is dispelled after one turn, and can be inflicted by skills such as Zio and Thunder Reign. Due to the offensive nature of this status effect, it can be used tactically to critically delay and damage foes at the same time.

In the mood to win friends and influence people? Consider making use of the Charm skill. The Charm skill, when inflicted upon foes, will temporarily turn them against their allies. Enemies inflicted with Charm can attack their own allies, or alternatively boost your own party with their spells.

Evil Smile
Fear is the mind-killer. The Fear status ailment has the unique effect of possibly causing an enemy to flee the battle altogether. If you’re less lucky, it will at least prevent the afflicted enemy from making their move for a turn.
As with other effects, this will also leave them more susceptible to critical hits. If that wasn’t enough, making use of the Ghastly Wail skill will instantly defeat all enemies inflicted with the Fear status. Otherwise, Fear can be inflicted by Evil Touch, Evil Smile, and Pralaya. It can be cured by Patra and Me Patra.

Poison Mist

It will not otherwise naturally go away by itself until the afflicted target reaches a single point of health. It can be inflicted by Poisma, Poison Mist, Virus Breath, and Poison Arrow, and dispelled by Posumudi and Amrita.
