The stratagem usage inHelldivers 2is the core combat mechanic that elevates guns blazing gameplay from casual shooting to pure chaos. There are offensive, support, and defensive types of stratagems, each offering a unique value and approach to be used in combat.
You can upgrade the particular stratagem type by going to the Ship Management and navigating to the Ship Module. VariousSample Typesare required to purchase and upgrade the ship, which gives you passive buffs by strengthening the stratagem usage. This guide lists the ten best ship module upgrades you should prioritize for your destroyer.
Synthetic Supplementation
Divers hold the fort every now and then while doing various Main Mission tasks in the game.Missions such as Eradicate and Evacuate Civilians demand a strong defensive positionto defeat waves of Terminids or Automatons. In situations like these, you always need Sentry turrets and Resupplies.
TheSynthetic Supplementation ship module upgrade increases the cooldown time for Sentry and Resupply stratagem drops by ten percent. Even if your sentry turret is destroyed, with this ship module upgrade, you can recall it with less waiting time, which is a huge advantage when Automatons and Terminids overrun your defenses.
Advanced Construction
Sentry turrets are overpoweredand come with an amazing range, but theonly caveat is that they have low health. This may potentially stop you from using turrets frequently, which is fine in situations outside defensive positions, but not when waves of bug and bot hordes surround you.
Buying the Advanced Construction ship module in the game will give your Sentry turrets 50 percent more healthbefore these can be destroyed. Besides the extra health, positioning Sentry away from bugs also plays a vital role. Never rely heavily on increased health, and always position turrets wisely.
You will need to buy the Synthetic Supplementation ship module upgrade first, and then you may acquire the Advanced Construction upgrade.
Dynamic Tracking
A complete squad calling down Sentry turrets back to back is a sight to behold, especially when you see all of them in action. However,it takes a lot of time to throw the stratagem on the ground and then wait for the Sentry to deploy. This is a serious disadvantage that must not be overlooked.
Luckily,the Dynamic Tracking ship module upgrade significantly reduces the deployment time for all the Sentry you want to call down. The Sentry will be up and ready to fire on bots in no time.
Targeting Software Upgrade
Orbital stratagems have long deployment and cooldown times, making them less effective in combat against bugs or bots. Orbital Barrages are further dragged down by slower bombarding speed, and most of the time, the targets get away.
This can be rectified to an extentby acquiring the ship module called Targeting Software Upgrade.All Orbital stratagems deployment time then gets a reduction of one second. This is not a significant upgrade, but nevertheless, it is still useful in situations such as when you attempt to kill Bile Titan with a 500 KG Bomb that could have missed the target if the Orbital landed one second late.
Nuclear Radar
One of thediver’s radar features allows you to see the presence of a nearby enemy. Thethreat pings in red if you open the mapduring the missions. By default, the range is very short, and usually, you can use this ping system to spot the direction in which bugs or bots are approaching you.
However,when you buy the Nuclear Radar module, the enemies' ping radius increases by 50 meterson the map. This is helpful while attacking a certain enemy stronghold or defending a certain position, solo or with a full squad.
To purchase the Nuclear Radar upgrade ship module, you first need to purchase Targeting Software from the Bridge section of the ship module.
Shock Absorption Gel
While the Synthetic Supplementation, Advanced Construction, and Dynamic Tracking all enhance Sentry stratagems,the Shock Absorption Gel is by far the best ship module upgrade. Thisgives all Sentry turrets a 50 percent increased ammo, and Sentries last longer in the field if not destroyed.
You first need to get Dynamic Tracking to be able to buy this one.
This upgrade is useful for Main Missions such as Eradicate Terminids and Automatons. You just place the Sentry away from the enemy, and it will rain down firepower twice the duration before the ammo runs out.
The Shock Absorption Gel upgrade is also excellent while farming Medals and XP by playing the Automatons Defend Missions.
Donation Access License
Under the Patriotic Administration Center section, theDonation Access License is the first and the best ship module upgrade you should purchase. All the support weapons you call will now come with the maximum number of carriable magazines.
This is a great upgrade becauseit saves you from frequently calling the Supply pod and refilling the ammo.
Weapons such as Grenade Launcher and Railgun benefit the most from Donation Access License. The former is an excellent support weapon for crowd control, and the latter for breaking armor and killing armored enemies.
Liquid-Ventilated Cockpit
As we already covered in this list,Orbital stratagems have long cooldowns, and the deployment time is also slow. Most players pick Eagle stratagems over Orbitals as they have a mere second cooldown and deployment time.
However,Liquid-Ventilated Cockpitfurther reduces the Eagle stratagem cooldown time by 50 percent, giving you more reason to go in all Eagles during missions. All the more reason not to skip this ship module and try to get it early in the game.
Eagle Air Strike and Eagle Cluster Bomb are by far the best offensive stratagems to use.
Pit Crew Hazard Bay
While theEagle stratagems have lower cooldownsand fighters drop payload quickly,they can only be used a limited number of timesduring missions. You can alwaysrequest to resupply your Eagle stratagems, butthat comes with a downtime of a few minutes, and all Eagle stratagems become disabled.
You need to buy the Liquid-Ventilated Cockpit ship module upgrade first before you can get this one.
To reduce Eagle stratagem rearm time, you must get the Pit Crew Hazard Pay ship module.This upgrade makes rearming 20 percent faster, significantly improving handling the hordes of bugs and bots in the field.
The standard cooldown time to rearm all Eagle stratagems is 150 seconds. After getting the Pit Crew Hazard Bay, the total cooldown becomes 120 seconds.
Expanded Weapons Bay
Relying on Eagle stratagems is an excellent offensive strategy. Thesepowerful air strikes can wipe the floor and even have the ability to take down bosses such as Bile Titan or Automaton Tank. However, the Expanded Weapons Bay ship module upgrade takes things up a notch.
With this upgrade,every time you call the Eagle Rearm, you get an additional use per Eagle stratagem. This is the number one and best upgrade we recommend you do not miss getting for your diver in the game. The extra charge gives you the liberty to be more offensive when push comes to shove.
