Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’ssecond season has added a variant of the RAM-7 into the SMG category. Known as the RAM-9, this weapon is chambered in 9mm and features a much more aggressive stat package than its 5.56 counterpart. If you prefer to fight opponents up close, the RAM-9 might become your new favorite weapon.
But as with the assault rifle version, the RAM-9 is a weapon with a formidable recoil pattern. Using the right attachments is key to making this weapon competitive with other top-tier SMGs and assault rifles. Fortunately, we have created two builds that turn the RAM-9 into the ultimate close-quarters primary. Before we show off these builds, let’s first explain how you can unlock this weapon for yourself.
How To Unlock The RAM-9
The RAM-9 is unlocked by completing Sector B6 in the Season 2 Battle Pass.Sectors are completed byspending Battle Pass tokensto claim a Sector’s rewards. Assuming you focus solely on unlocking the RAM-9, it will take 15 Battle Pass Tokens to reach and clear Sector B6.
Once Season 2 ends, the RAM-9’s unlock requirement will become tied to an in-game challenge. you may view the challenge by previewing the RAM-9 in the Create-A-Class menu.
As with all weapons in MW3, you will need to level the RAM-9 to access all of its attachments. This weapon hasa total of 24 levels. The good news is thatmost RAM-7 attachments work on the RAM-9. If you already leveled the RAM-7, most of the RAM-9’s attachments will be unlocked for you.
Accuracy RAM-9 Build
Similar to its assault rifle counterpart, the RAM-9 has a significant amount of recoil by default. This build aims tolower the weapon’s recoil as much as possible.Through the use of firing aim stability attachments and general recoil reduction modifiers, you can turn the RAM-9 into a highly accurate SMG with minimal hit to its handling stats.
By far the most important stat on this weapon is firing aim stability, as this greatly tightens your bullet spread while firing the gun. We use theBruen Heavy Support Grip, Retort 90 Grip Tape, and Zehmn35 Compensator Flash Hiderto get as much of this stat as possible. The muzzle also has the added benefit of hiding your muzzle flash and shortening your radar pings.
These attachments make the recoil pattern of this weapon far more predictable, yet the RAM-9 will still struggle to fight opponents on head glitches or past 30m. We fix this by using theHunker-5 Stock Pad. This reduces your recoil across the board with a minor ADS penalty. Throw onany magazine attachmentto finish the build.
Loadout Recommendations
While this build doesn’t use a suppressor, it’s still important to muffle your foosteps and play aggressively with an SMG. This is why we recommend using theNinja Vest, as it gives you the Covert Sneakers perk for free. This opens up the boot slot for another perk, preferablyTactical Padsso you’re able to fully ADS mid-slide. Throw onEODto mitigate incoming explosive damage.
The Ninja Vest gives you additional Throwing Knives, making theThrowing Knifea great choice for your Lethal slot. Tacticals are mostly down to preference, but you can’t go wrong withStimsfor quick HP recovery. Since this build doesn’t use Ghost, consider usingDead Silenceto counter enemy UAVs as needed.
Stealth RAM-9 Build
For players that prefer to stay off the radar, this RAM-9 build focuses onstealthand accuracywithout compromising on handling stats. This build won’t be quite as accurate as our previous build, but this setup uses an integrated suppressor to stay off enemy radar.
We start by equipping theBoreal-6C Suppressed Barrel.This barrel trades range for mobility, handling, and an integrated suppressor. TheBruen Heavy Support Grip, Retort 90 Grip Tape, and HVS 3.4 Padthen reduce the gun’s recoil to make it extremely accurate at medium distances. Equip the40 Round Magto finish the build. This will make landing multikills much easier.
We recommend the same loadout as our accuracy build since Ninja and Tactical Pads pair so well with SMGs. The only major difference is wetrade EOD for Ghost.This will keep you off the radar while moving, pairing with your suppressor to keep you off enemy radar at all times. Remember to use yourThrowing Kniveswhen needed.
