From your journey throughDragon’s Dogma 2, what you’re most likely to remember are the epic battles between your party and the massive monsters that inhabit the land. Yet the story of the game is grand as well, with plenty of political intrigue and magical characters to interact with.

What is most peculiar about these characters is how they speak, since no one acts as you’d expect them to, making line deliveries have a certain air of mystique about them. Out of all those enchanting moments, we’ve chosen the most memorable ones, so we can recall our travels through this world together.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Brant announcing the sovran

7“The Return Of The Sovran!”

Brant

The intro cutscene of Dragon’s Dogma 2 shows a possible future where you are crowned Sovran of Vermund, all before you even create your character. The significance of the soldier (who youlater learn is named Brant) announcing the Sovran is lost to you at first, but that pose is one that is hard to forget.

Yet the significance of this line goes beyond the game. This was one of the first scenes of Dragon’s Dogma 2 people got to see, and it signified the return of not only the Arisen, but the series as a whole. After nearly 11 years of waiting for a sequel, the Arisen being announced as finally returning is a sweet moment for fans indeed.

6“Go Now, Lost Soul”

The Pathfinder

The Pathfinder is one of the most enigmatic figures in the game’s lore since it’s hard to understand what he really is after you first meet him. He seems to be helping you, but the limits of his powers aren’t known, assuming there are any, so players are left to simply speculate about him as they travel forth.

Veterans of the series are the most puzzled by his inclusion, since the rest of the game seems to be doing what the first Dragon’s Dogma did, from the big red Dragon to a heartless chosen one. The moment when the Pathfinder sends you off is iconic since this is when the doubt begins about whether you can trust him or not.

5“From This Moment Forth, You Are Arisen, Charge And All”

The Dragon

The moment when the player is made Arisen is a deeply iconic one in both games, but the second one did a few interesting things when compared to its predecessor. For one, you don’t start the game at this moment but much later, and there’s also the presence of Ulrika, who was almost chosen by the Dragon before you showed up.

Yet what stands out the most is the Dragon addressing you directly. In the original game, what the Dragon said was in an unintelligible language. Still, here, you know from the get-go that you’re chosen, setting up the rest of the plot in motion and putting the Dragon well above a simple mindless monster.

4“Save For In One Respect”

Wilhelmina

There are a lot of side quests and optional dialogue you can encounter as you play Dragon’s Dogma 2, but some stories are more laid out than others. If you do the Vermund campaign, you’ll end up meeting Wilhelmina, the owner of a brothelin the noble quarters of the city.

If you end up doing her questline, you’ll soon find out that she’s in a quest for revenge, and you can even help her in her plots. At the end of that questline, you find out that her mother was a Beastren, something that you wouldn’t be able to tell from glancing at Wilhelmina, but as she reveals, she did inherit something from her mother: the “one respect” in the quote refers to her left eye.

3“Greetings, Arisen”

Every moment with the Dragon is memorable, not only for his imposing visage but also for how few and far between those moments are. One of those moments is when you finally face him at the “end” of the game: the Dragon makes a grand entrance by destroying the Royce copy of him created by Phaesus, and after that, addressing you.

The way he casually greets you after such a fearsome display is, even if unintentional, very funny. The Dragon, in all of his interactions, acts almost like an office clerk, just doing his nine-to-five but eager to do his job right, and him just saying “greetings” when seeing you after so long adds to that feeling.

2“By Thy Will Alone Can The Course Of The Rivers of Fate Be Altered”

While this quote is also said by the Dragon at times, its most controversial utterance comes from the Pathfinder himself, being spoken during your crowning as Sovran moments before he transports you to the Dragon’s fight once more. This allows you to change your choices and enter the Unmoored World, taking you on the path toward the True Ending.

The quote is notable since, while you are in the Unmoored World, the Pathfinder acts as an antagonist, as if defying fate is wrong and worthy of punishment. But one of the ways you may get to this point is by being sent back in time by the Pathfinder himself, who is almost recommending you to rebel against fate and, in turn, against him.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 player using a ladder

Understanding this quote is key to understanding the Pathfinder, someone with near endless power but who can’t help but aid us in our path, even if that path leads to his destruction. Or maybe he secretly wants to be overthrown but can’t do so himself, so he leaves breadcrumbs for someone worthy of taking him out.

1“Look Arisen, A Ladder!”

Your Pawn

Pawns are chatty by design, speaking not only among themselvesbut also to you, trying to provide helpful tips in multiple situations. They can point out secret chests, paths, and even ladders that you might have missed, and if you didn’t miss them, they’ll point them out all the same.

While we could have chosen any of the many quotes your Pawns yell at you, the ladder pointing is particularly annoying, since you have no way of making them shut up about it. No matter how many times you go up and down a ladder, if you go back to Vermund after a short period of time, your Pawns will mark all the ladders of the city once again.
