InGranblue Fantasy: Relink, you play as the Captain of the Grandcypher, leading your crew across the skies. At first, you’ll be able to play one of the six members of the Grandcypher crew, but you’ll quickly gain the ability to unlock more characters using Crewmate Cards.
There are 12 characters you can unlock with Crewmate Cards, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. However, getting all 12 Cards will take quite a bit of time, so you’ll want to prioritize certain characters to unlock before others. Below, we’ll take a look at a few of the best characters to unlock first.
6Cagliostro
Useful Skills
Cagliostro is an all-around great choice for your first recruitable character. She brings tons of utility to the party with her buffs and debuffs, and her attack combos can be very powerful when you get the hang of them. Phantasmagoria buffs the entire party with increased attack, defense, and critical hit rate, making it useful no matter the situation.
Besides the Captain, Cagliostro is one of only two characters in the game with the ability to instantly revive allies in critical condition with her skill Rhizomata. Along with Reinforce and Mehen, Cagliostro can provide some nice defensive and supporting buffs for keeping your party alive.
5Zeta
If you’re looking for a powerful Fire-element character with a unique playstyle, Zeta is a great choice for your first Crewmate Card. This spear-wielding Society Member has the ability to launch herself into the air, performing fast aerial combos by chaining dive attacks.
While Zeta is mainly used as a damage dealer, she can also bring a bit of utility to the party through Signo Drive, Rain of Fury, and Wingclipper. Signo Drive is a fairly basic attack buff for the party, but Wingclipper can be very handy by disabling the enemy from attacking for a few seconds.
4Percival
Similar to Zeta, Percival is a Fire-element damage dealer that employs a fairly unique charged-attack playstyle. By holding the special attack button, Percival will charge his sword; release the button to unleash a large, high-damage attack.
X-Seele is a great utility skill to have while you play through the story. This skill packs in a defense down debuff and a slow debuff into one, making the enemies take more damage while making it easier to avoid their attacks.
3Charlotta
Charlotta is one of the strongest characters in the game thanks to her potent offensive and defensive buffs, making her a great character to pick up early on. By rapidly pressing the normal attack button, you can chain an endless number of slashes together.
Her skill Valiant Stance grants her an endless attack buff as long as she doesn’t take damage, which can be easily achieved using her number of defensive tools like Invincible, which makes Charlotta completely immune to damage, and Rising Cut, which allows her to parry incoming attacks. Overall, Charlotta is a great character with several useful skills.
2Siegfried
Siegfried is an invaluable character to recruit as soon as possible due to his access to several unique buffs. Mirage provides a massive 70 percent defense buff to the entire party, letting you take some pretty big attacks. Plus, with Salvator, you can quickly heal up any damage you may take by simply continuing to attack.
Siegfried also has powerful offensive buffs like Verdrangen to reduce the enemy’s defense or Draconic Release which increases his attack every time he successfully times his attacks. Timing Siegfried’s attacks can be tricky, but with enough practice, it’ll become second nature.
1Ferry
Ferry is a ghostly Light-element character that can summon different pets to the battlefield to empower her abilities. By using her charged normal attacks, she can summon her pets, which will then grant different bonuses to her skills, or empower her special attack.
Purge Spirits is an easy way to quickly summon all three pets, which can then be chained into Benediction to heal allies and buff Ferry. Using Ferry as primarily a damage dealer who can also heal when needed is a great choice for progressing through the story, making her a strong option for picking up first.
