While it’s true thatMinecrafthas added a fair amount of aquatic-related content to ocean biomes, like turtles, kelp, bubble columns, and plenty of other neat features, just know you’re not alone if you feel like there’s still room for even more changes or additions.

Thankfully, there are plenty of talented modders that can transform good ideas into tangible content. If you’re looking to brave large, aquatic expanses, go on a grand adventure, raid pillager ships, explore new structures, dive deeper than ever before, and feel like a true seafarer, you’re in the right place. Just… remember to bring your sea legs.

8Better Underwater Ruins

If you find yourself exploring oceans by boat and diving off into the depths somewhat often, then you should give this mod a try. Compatible with either Forge or Fabric, you’ll never experience ocean exploration the same way again after encountering:

Just be careful around these new Drowned mobs; they act differently and might catch you off guard, or have you reconsider your personal definition of what the word “prepared” means.

7Uh Oh; Pillagers Have Taken To The Seas

Not everyone enjoys dealing with Pillagers, especially when you’re minding your own business, have to defend yourself from a roaming scouting party, and find yourself unable to enter a village without triggering a raid event.

On the other hand, maybe you’re the kind of person that doesn’t mind getting revenge on NPCsthat ruin your villager trading plans. If you want to throw a wrench in the Pillager’s recent foray into your world’s oceans, grab this Forge mod and start boarding those ships like the brave seafarer you are.

6Aquatic Additions, Anyone?

This mod, which is compatible with Forge, Fabric, and NeoForge, manages to implement extra aquatic content without straying very far from the vanilla experience, including two new armor sets, tools made from turtle drops, and a few unique items.

Scute Armor provides an alternative route to getting iron-level armor, while Turtle Armor focuses on providing greater durability and safer underwater exploration. The Turtle tools are a middle-ground between Diamond and Netherite equipment. If you happen to be in danger underwater, use a Turtle Apple if you have one.

5Oceans Not Deep Enough For You?

This Forge, Fabric, and Quilt friendly mod took a look at Minecraft’s vanilla oceans, which only achieve maximum depths of around negative 25 on the y-coordinate if you happen to be in a deep ocean, and decided to change their generation to achieve depths roughly three times as deep.

While it’s a shame that this mod isn’t compatible with certain terrain generation mods like Terralith or Terraforged, pairing it with another mod, shader, or resource pack that allows you to see deeper from the water’s surface can enhance the experience greatly.

4What Do We Do With All This Kelp?

While Kelp can play an important role, especially for those of you using it as one ofthe most effective fuel sources in the base game, it still feels a bit limited. With this Fabric, Forge, Quilt, and NeoForge friendly mod, though, you can give Kelp an extra function.

Instead of having to farm skeletons and grind their bones into bonemeal, why not go completely green and use a bunch of Kelp to fertilize your farmland instead? It’s much easier to gather in bulk, and won’t reduce the durability of your armor or weapons, after all.

3These Fish Look Familiar

While it’s certainly more of an “aesthetic” mod, Fish of Thieves is for those of you looking to bridge the gap between your love forSea of Thievesand Minecraft, add more biodiversity to the game’s oceans, or make some really cool-looking aquariums.

Compatible with Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge, you’ll be able to populate the seas with plenty of these funky little fellas in no time; some of which look pretty darn cute. Go ahead, grab a bucket, a fishing rod, or a comfortable place to sit, and appreciate the new sea life the way you want to.

2Better Ocean Monuments, Please

If you’ve been dying for a complete redesign and overhaul of ocean monuments, you can’t go wrong with this immensely popular Forge mod. The first thing you might notice about these new monuments is how engaging and rewarding they feel.

Beyond that, though, the best aspect of this mod is that every ocean monument you discover will have a completely randomized layout, which means you’ll be less likely to get bored with this content while you’re plundering for a few Hearts of The Sea and a Trident.

1Less Land, More Water

Have you ever opened Minecraft, set your sights on creating a new single-player world, flicked through the world generation options, and ultimately decided to give up on the idea? It’s not a great feeling, but what if you could add an entirely new world generation option?

If you like the idea of a water-dominated world where land masses are smaller and sparser, then this Forge mod might be just what you need to reignite that nostalgic spark that many of us have for Minecraft. Hopefully, you’ll spawn on an island with a tree.
