One of the best feats you can pick up inDungeons & Dragonsis the fantastic eldritch adept. This feat allows any character topick up an eldritch invocationso long as they meet its prerequisites. Now, most invocations don’t even have prerequisites, meaning there is still plenty to pick up, and each one offers something unique and useful.

But since there are so many great options, it may be hard to choose what might be the best eldritch invocation to pick for your character, especially because you don’t want to regret choosing the wrong option. Thankfully, we have got you covered. Here are the absolute best invocations to pick up if you’re using the eldritch adept feat.

A woman in dark clothing poses as shadowy magic emanates from behind her

Wizards, Sorcerers, Bards

Invocation

you’re able to cast mage armor on yourself at will without using a spell slot

Although it’s simple, this invocation is a lifesaver, especially for spellcasters who tend to have low AC. This eldritch invocation will allow you to cast the spell mage armor at will without using a spell slot at all.

A figure looms over a desk as numerous other creatures are behind him in Dungeons & Dragons Yawning Portal Cover Art

This saves on spell slots and can free up a learned spell for classes like bards and sorcerers. So if you’re playing something such as a wizard, you definitely need this invocation, as it will save you many spell slots in the future.

You gain proficiency in the Deception and Persuasion skills

A hooded man appears underground holding two pickaxes in Dungeons & Dragons Underdark

When it comes to eldritch invocations, you will always find that they are great when it comes to saving resources. Eldritch adept is perfect for this, especially if you are getting the feat when making your character (if you’re playing a variant human).

If you are playing any sort ofCharisma-based character, then getting Beguiling Influence will allow you to get proficiencies in two skills that are integral for any social interactions and will hopefully allow you to focus on getting other skill proficiencies. It’s a handy invocation, especially for bards, sorcerers, and variant humans.

A Drow sends a cold beam of frost that freezes its enemy

Humans, Wizards

You can see normally in darkness, both magical and nonmagical, to a distance of 120 feet

Although it can be situational, there is absolutely nothing wrong with having a boost to your character’s sight. This is exactly what the Devil Sight invocation does by letting you see not only with an impressive range but seeing through magical darkness is a huge advantage.

An elf approaches a glowing blue door in an underground catacomb

If you’re playing a human who doesn’t have darkvision, then you most definitely need to pick this up. Also don’t forget that this is technically superior to darkvision, which only allows you to see shades of grey. This invocation lets you see through darkness in full color.

You have advantage on Constitution saving throws to maintain concentration

A woman in a witch’s hat stands before a cauldron holding a magical book

Any spellcaster that’s worth their wand knows just how important it is to maintain concentration on your spells. After all, the last thing you want to deal with is losing out on a Haste spell or a Banishment; that alone can turn the tides of any combat.

So to have an invocation that can give you advantage on saving throws to keep your spells up is obviously always helpful. Any spellcaster would benefit from it.

Oswald Fiddlebender the gnome artificer hanging from a rope on a skyship

you may cast detect magic at will

Another great invocation for any type of spellcaster or for characters who even dabble in magic slightly is Eldritch Sight. Although it may seem a little lackluster, the invocation allows you to cast the Detect Magic spell at will without costing any spell slots.

A Mind Flayer stands behind a figure whose eyes are glowing

This is always useful, as you’ll likely always come across some source of magic unless you’re playing in a low-magic campaign. Once again, this saves you from needing to have this spell prepared or spending a spell slot on it.

you may read all writing

Another fantastically useful invocation if you’re focusing on utility is Eyes Of The Runekeeper. This invocation will let you read all writing, yes, that includes any writing that is in languages your character can’t speak.

But if you’re also playing in a campaign where you’re sure to go dungeon delving for long-lost treasure or needing to fulfill a scholarly role in your campaign, then invocation will greatly help you to translate any important texts you come across and save any spellcasters in your party from having to burn a slot casting something like Comprehend Languages when you can read everything yourself.

Any Character

You can breathe underwater, gain a swimming speed equal to your walking speed, and cast Water Breathing once per long rest

Although it may seem like it’s a little niche, Gift Of The Depths is another wonderful invocation to utilize if you can, especially if you’re in apirate or sea-faring type of campaign. Most characters don’t have a swimming speed by default. So without this, you’d move at half speed underwater.

you may also cast Water Breathing without expending a spell slot once every long rest. This means that you can have the spell always ready to use on your party whenever it’s required. Though it may be a bit more situational than most others, it’s still one of the best invocations.

Rangers, Rogues

As an action, you can see through objects up to 30 feet. You gain darkvision within that range. The sight lasts for one minute until you take a short or long rest

Ghostly Gaze is one of the more interesting invocations, that is extremely useful for rogues (especially if you are playing an arcane trickster). This spell is for those characters who are great at stealth and want to scout ahead, being able to use this invocation to see through solid objects.

As well as being helpful for scouting, the invocation also recharges per short rest, meaning that it will likely be a resource you’ll use more often than others. Whether it’s to know how many enemies are in a room to finding out what’s behind a door, this is an invocation you won’t ever regret picking up.
