Summary
With Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, FromSoftware dropped the RPG formula of theDark Soulsseries to fully invest in a deep, involved, high-octane combat system. By ensuring every player would get the exact same tools during their journey, the studio could developthrilling boss fightsthat can only be beaten if you master Sekiro’s clever parry mechanic. Still, there are plenty of ways to get creative in Sekiro to take down powerful enemies, thanks to Quick Items and consumables that can give you the edge in combat.
While it’s possible to beat Sekiro without ever using a consumable, the items you gather in your adventure can help you overcome particularly tough challenges. Whether you’re exploring the world or engaging against one of those mighty bosses, consumable Quick Items can be enormously useful.

10Pellet
Continual (If Slow) Health Restoration
After consuming a Pellet, your health will slowly regenerate for a short time. That means it might not be worth spending your limited supply of the items in the middle of a boss fight, where you could need to heal fast to recover from hefty blows and win the battle. However, Pellets are extremely useful for exploration, as they allow you to heal while you cross Sekiro’s enemy-infested locations.
By using Pellets while exploring the overworld, you can also hold on to your precious Healing Gourd for longer, saving it for more harrowing enemy encounters or bosses. Also, you can quickly restock on these marvelous survival tools, since Pellets drop from enemies you defeat.

While you can farm Pellets from most enemies, there are some enemies who drop them most often, such as Fencers, shielded Ashina Soldiers, and Okami Warriors.
9Yashariku’s Sugar
A Huge Offensive Boost That Must Be Used With Great Care
Yashariku’s Sugar significantly boosts the Posture and Vitality damage you inflict on your enemies, helping you stagger mighty foes quickly. This power-up comes at a severe price, though, as this Sugar also cuts your own Vitality and Posture bars in half for the duration of the effect.
The price to pay for using Yashariku’s Sugar is exceptionally high for newcomers. However, as you learn how to parry and deflect enemies’ attacks, this consumable becomes more valuable. Plus, the high-risk, high-reward concept of Yashariku’s Sugar only makes the game more thrilling for skilled shinobis. After all, if you never take a hit, there’s no downside. This item can be purchased in limited quantities from Blackhat Badger and Anayama the Peddlar, but you may also farm Yashariku’s Sugar from Elder Monkeys.

In order to avoid wasting your consumables, be sure to wait for the effects of a Sugar to be over before using another one.
8Mibu Possession Balloon
An Item Hoarder’s Best Friend
The Mibu Possession Balloon increases the drop rate of items while active, helping you farm for precious resources faster. This Balloon is even vital in the first hours of Sekiro, as it can help you gather the materials you need to upgrade your Prosthetic Tools.
Popping a Mibu Possession Balloon before defeating an area filled with low-level enemies is an excellent habit to have, as it will help ensure that these otherwise unhelpful foes will drop items you need to progress on your journey. Plus, since the effects of this consumable last for over two minutes, you’ll have plenty of time to slay dozens of weaker foes. This, in turn, limits the farming you may have to do for specific drops. Mibu Possession Balloons are more readily found in the Hirata Estate and Ashina Castle areas.

7Oil
Wield The Power Of Fire And Multiply Its Effects
In the first hours of Sekiro, Oil is a situational tool at best. Throwing Oil at an enemy increases the damage they receive from fire attacks and makes Burn (minor damage over time and a huge Posture disadvantage) more effective against them. However, once you acquire the Flame Vent, you can combine the Prosthetic Tool with Oil to quickly dispose of tough enemies. Bloodborne players familiar with the tactic of combining Oil Urns with fire attacks will understand how powerful this can be.
By the endgame, you can even unlock some Skills that give fire effects to your sword attack, making it even easier to reap the fantastic effects of Oil. A build that leans heavily into this effect won’t be as potent against every enemy, but is certainly strong. Oil is found around the overworld, notably at the Hirata Estate and Ashina Depths.

6Mibu Balloon Of Wealth
A Must-Use For Any Sen-Savvy Shinobi
Since you lose sen when you die in Sekiro, it can be hard to save up enough money to buy the items you need. That’s where the Mibu Balloon of Wealth comes into play. This Quick Item increases the amount of sen you get for each enemy you defeat for 2.5 minutes, allowing you to farm sen faster.
The effect of the Mibu Balloon of Wealth is also applied to any sen you still haven’t collected. As sen is critical to improving your character’s abilities and chances of survival inSekiro’s harsh and peculiar ape-poop-throwing world, the more of it you make, the less difficult and ultimately frustrating the adventure will be. It’ll be very helpful indeed, then, to deploy this Quick Item whenever there are lots of drops to pick up. The item is dropped by monkey enemies, and also found in locales such as Ashina Castle.

5Jinza’s Jizo Statue
Rise From The Jaws Of Defeat To Fight Once More
Jinza’s Jizo Statue is one of the rarest consumables in Sekiro, as you can only get a single one per cycle by completing Jinzaemon Kumano’s questline. Still, this consumable is so helpful that it can completely turn the tides of a boss battle.
The Jinza’s Jizo Statue is a different consumable you may use after spending your Bundled Jizo Statue, allowing you to rise from seeming defeat a third time. It’s the perfect tool to finally get the best of the likes of Owl Father or Isshin Ashina. In a FromSoftware title, after all, just one more chance at tackling a difficult foe can finally spell victory. The Jinza’s Jizo Statue can give you that chance.

In the battle against Great Shinobi Owl, Owl recites one of the rules in the Shinobi Code every time he kills you. You witness three unique lines if you use the Bundled Jizo Statue and Jinza’s Jinzo Statue. This is the only way to hear this dialogue.
4Fistful Of Ash
A Simple But Effective Way To Stun Enemies
Even if Fistful of Ash seems like a simple item, it can be extremely powerful, even against bosses. Throwing a Fistful of Ash at an enemy makes them flinch for a second, taking a step back to clear their vision and giving you a window to attack.
The Fistful of Ash is also perfect for crowd control, and allows you to escape a dire situation after being cornered. It’s just as convenient defensively as it is offensively, then. It’s available in limited quantities, but in that sense, isn’t as costly to use as the Shinobi Firecracker Prosthetic Tool. It’s advised to have a stock of it at all times for emergencies. To obtain it, Fistful of Ash drops from most enemies, and most merchants in Sekiro have a limited amount to sell you too.

3Gachiin’s Sugar
Kill Your Enemies Before They Realize You Are There
Gachiin’s Sugar turns you into a semi-transparent shinobi, dramatically increasing your ability to sneak around enemies without being seen or heard. With careful play, it can allow you to remove entire groups of enemies without breaking stealth. It can even enable you to backstab the minibosses you find in the overworld. Since most minibosses can only be killed with two Death Blows, this cuts your fight in half.
Outside of boss battles, one of the surest ways tomeet your (narratively-significant) end in Sekirois by being surrounded by a group of foes. Evening the odds with this Quick Item can do wonders to prevent that. Ganchiin’s Sugar is mostly found in Senpou Temple.

2Ako’s Sugar
An Essential Tool To Add More Power To Each Blow
Ako’s Sugar should be your main to-go Sekiro consumable for boss and miniboss fights. This Quick Item increases the damage your strikes deal to targets' Vitality and Posture for a limited amount of time, allowing you to play aggressively and stun mighty foes in a few seconds.
While the bonus granted by Ako’s Sugar is not on the same level as Yashariku’s Sugar, Ako’s Sugar doesn’t have any downsides. It only increases your attack power without taking anything in return, making it one of the best consumables in Sekiro (particularly if you aren’t comfortable tackling bosses under the effects of the debuff Yashariku’s Sugar causes). Senpou Temple is a good source of Ako’s Sugar, and it can also potentially be sold by Anayama the Peddler.

You’ll eventually unlock the Devotion Latent Skill by spending points in the Temple Arts skill tree. This Latent Skill increases the duration of most sugar from 30 to 45 seconds, allowing you to punish your foes for longer. The only exception is Gachiin’s Sugar, which goes from one minute to one minute and a half.
1Divine Confetti
The Ultimate Tool To Make You A Master Shinobi
Divine Confetti allows your sword attacks to hit Apparitions. This makes it a crucial Quick Item to complete Sekiro, helping you take down some of its more otherworldly minibosses. However, Divine Confetti also gives you an attack boost against regular enemies.
Since Divine Confetti is rare at the beginning of Sekiro, you will probably save it to fight Apparitions. However, once you may buy as much Divine Confetti as possible, you should start using it everywhere. Its effects last a whole minute and can be stacked with Sugars, meaning that using it allows you to deal as much damage as possible in a wide range of situations. You can buy an infinite supply of Divine Confetti from any merchant after acquiring the Dragon’s Tally Board at the entry of Fountainhead Palace.
