Whenever some of theNintendo Switch’s biggest games are on sale, I’ll give the usual spiel aboutNintendonever needing to reduce the price of its heavy hitters so this should be considered a special occasion. That’s still true, but maybe not quite as true as it was a few months ago. With the Switch seemingly nearing the end of its life cycle, its games have been getting their prices slashed more and more often, and right now Amazon and Best Buy have some of the biggest ones available for less.

Topping the bill isSuper Mario Odyssey. Not only kept at full price because it has sold almost 30 million copies, but six years on from its release, it remains the newest 3D Mario game, not includingMario 3D World + Bowser’s Furywhich was technically a port. Available for $40 right now on Amazon through the link in the box below as opposed to the usual $60, perhaps Nintendo is trying to get as many people to play Odyssey before it reveals the next unique 3D Mario game is a Switch successor launch game.

WHERE TO PLAY

Super Mario Odyssey brought the 3D platforming series to the Nintendo Switch for the first time. Launched in 2017, it sees Mario team up with a sentient hat named Cappy, as they look to save Princess Peach once again.

Only four Switch games have sold better than Mario Odyssey, and one of them is also on sale for $40 right now.Breath of the Wild, which has now topped 31 million copies sold, is $40 at Best Buy through the link below. For Zelda, a price cut may well be an attempt by Nintendo to get more people playing the game that came beforeTears of the Kingdombefore it potentially re-releases 2023’s Game of the Year contender with enhanced visuals on its next console.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Widely regarded as one of the best games ever made, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sets Link his toughest challenge yet. With free exploration of a huge open world and a story you’re able to complete in your own order, it is a must-play for the Nintendo Switch.

If you’re already done with the latest version of Hyrule, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom aren’t the only Switch Zelda games on sale right now.Link’s Awakening is also down to $39.99 at Best Buy. $40 appears to be the price of choice for all these reduced games. Best Buy’s other Switch offerings for the same price includeFire Emblem Engage, which is only a little more than a year old, andthe Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1, which is even newer, is also down to $39.99.

Despite rumors there would be a Nintendo Direct last week, along with a hope that the next Nintendo console might be officially revealed or at least mentioned, the wait continues. The evidence that news and changes are coming continues to stack up, though. Not only via games going on sale but also through amiibo activity.Sora, the last announced amiibo on Switch released last week, and several other figures have been restocked on the Nintendo site.
