TheNintendo Switchhas been hugely popular during its seven-year run, selling 132 million units and counting. Because of that, some of its most popular games have become some of the best-selling titles in video game history.Animal Crossing: New HorizonsandMario Kart 8 Deluxe, for example, which together have sold more than 100 million copies. Those staggeringly high sales for popular titles mean Switch games are rarely reduced in price, so when they are, you best take advantage of it.

A seven-year-old game like the latest Mario Kart is rarely reduced, so news thatSuper Mario Bros. Wonder, which launches during a very busy week in October 2023, has had its price cut came as quite a shock. It’s true, though. Usually $59.99, you can grab the latest Mario game for just $50 right now through the Amazon link in the box below.

It’s unclear why exactly Wonder is available for less. It seems unlikely the newest installment in the long-running 2D Mario series has failed to sell as well as Nintendo expected, although we won’t know that for certain until up-to-date numbers are revealed, likely coming later this month. We do know Mario Wonder sold more than four million copies in its first nine days. Based on that and the long tail Switch games tend to have, it’s probably safe to assume Wonder will be right up there with some of the best-selling games on the platform when Nintendo updates its numbers.

WHERE TO PLAY

Super Mario Bros. Wonder is a brand new 2D Mario game launching exclusively on Nintendo Switch. Reimagining the original Mario game format yet again, it will include a lot of firsts for the series such as Elephant Mario and a playable Princess Daisy.

A price cut for Wonder might serve as further evidence that Nintendo will be moving on from the Switch soon. Evidence continues to mount suggesting a successor to the Switch will be revealed any day now, and may even be released before the end of 2024. If that is the plan, Nintendo may well want to sell as many copies of its current-gen games as possible while it still can, even cutting the price of games starring its most famous character three months after they launch.

Walmart’s price cuts on physical Switch games may be another indicator that an announcement is imminent. Photos of heavy price cuts to Switch games have been surfacing on social media with one Walmart customer sharing evidence of their local storecutting the price of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, a game released a little more than two weeks ago, from $50 down to just $10.
