Spider-Manfans have launched a Change.org petition to bring back The Great Web, a seemingly cancelled multiplayer game set in Insomnaic’s Spider-Man universe.
Just a few months ago,one of the biggest hacks in gaming history saw 1.6 terabytes of data leak out onto the internet, revealing tons of information aboutInsomniac Games and its plans for the next nine years. One of the moreinteresting games that was shared in the hack was Spider-Man: The Great Web, a cooperative multiplayer title that would have let players create their own Spider-Man and swing around with friends.

We’ve known about The Great Web since the Insomniac hack took place, but a trailer for the multiplayer game leaked yesterday and showed off how its cooperative Spider-Man gameplaywould have worked. Although the trailer is clearly unfinished, it’s garnered a lot of positive attention from fans, who were pained to learn that it was seemingly cancelled at some point in development, as it’s no longer on Insomniac’s leaked slate of upcoming titles.
Although a lot of games are getting cancelled latelyand it’s something that we should probably just all get used to, some Spider-Man fans have been so excited about the leaked footage that they’re taking matters into their own hand. Twitter is full of requests for Insomniac to restart development on the game, but the most interesting thing to come from it is an actual petition to bring it back.
Following the trailer being shared, a petition was started on Change.org that asks PlayStation and Insomniac to “bring back the Great Web”. The organiser of the petition, Henry Hughes, said that they were in “absolute shock” that the game was cancelled after looking so promising, and wanted to show the developers “the love and want we have for this possibly groundbreaking multiplayer experience”.
Some fans even think that the trailer was purposefully leaked by PlayStation to see if demand for the title is there, but that seems a little silly considering the Insomniac hacks that took place last yearthat are still ongoing.
As of the time of writing, the petition has nearly 1,500 signatures and seems to be gaining some traction within the Marvel’s Spider-Man community. Although it’s very unlikely that the petition is going to be enough to put the game back into development, especially since we don’t know what it was that caused the game to be cancelled in the first place, but it is a sign of how much fans want this kind of game.
