Sonic the Hedgehog 3has wrapped filming. Director Jeff Fowler, who also brought us the first two Sonic films, just confirmed the news online, pointing towards the movie being ready to premiere later this year.
Right now, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is set to hit theatres on Jun 12, 2025. This will be more than two years since the last film in the series, although the wait will be broken up bythe Knuckles show, which is hitting Paramount+ next month.
Filming for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 began last September, albeit without any actors due to the then-ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes. This likely meant that the crew got through all of the scenes that would just involve Sonic and the gang, even if they’d have to wait to add in the voice-over work. Still, it doesn’t appear that the strikes held up production too much, as filming has now wrapped with plenty of time to spare until its December release date.
While filming, rumours about Sonic the Hedgehog 3 began circulating online. It wasinitially spreadthat Live & Learn by Crush 40 would appear in the film, something seemingly backed up bythe track being referenced in a promotional video. Using this song in the film is a hugely popular fan request, since Live & Learn first appeared in Shadow’s debut game, Sonic Adventure 2, and this film will be Shadow’s introduction to the movie series.
We’ve also got a decent idea of where the story is heading based on the film’s cast. For example, actor Alyla Browne recently confirmed in an Instagram post that she’s playing Maria Robotnik, which would suggest thatShadow’s backstory remains somewhat faithful to the games. Whether the film will be bold enough to show a soldier killing a terminally ill child is another matter entirely, but it’s a prospect that fans are very, veryexcited about.
Krysten Ritter has also joined the cast, with fans assuming she’d be providing the voice for Rogue the Bat. However,it was later reported that she’s playing a human character, and Rogue isn’t even confirmed to be appearing in the film right now.
We’ll find out for sure what’s going on this December. Although now that filming is confirmed to be finished, we can expect more details to come out about the movie in the coming months, as we’re still waiting for our first proper trailer. We don’t even know who’s voicing Shadow yet, although the rumour (as per insiderDaniel Richtman) is that Hayden Christensen is playing the Ultimate Life Form this time around. We’ll have to wait and see if that claim amounts to anything.
