Most Lego sets don’t tend to stay available forever, and this might be the first indication that Lego plans on retiring Sonic’s first set. The good news - on top of being able to pick up the set for less at Best Buy - isthe set is still in stock on the Lego sitewith no indication there are plans to retire it anytime soon. It may just be a case of Best Buy selling through the last of its stock before the set is exclusively available through official Lego channels.

With Sonic’s Lego world growing, it makes sense that a retailer might need to make room on its shelves for what’s to come.Smaller sets introducing Tails and Amy Minifigureswere released midway through last year, and thenShadow joined them before the end of 2023. That trend has already continued in 2024,a Knuckes mech set releasedthat includes the echidna and a Rouge Minifugure, possibly hinting at the bat being the next character to get the spotlight in other Sonic media.
Knuckles and Shadow will continue to (hedge)hog the spotlight for the time being as they’re the characters with the most to promote throughout the rest of 2024. Knuckles' spinoff show hits Paramount Plus on April 26, and then Shadow will be introduced to Sonic’s live-action universe in December viaSonic the Hedgehog 3. Shadow will also star inSonic x Shadow Generations, a remaster of Sonic Generations that will feature Shadow content not present in the original game.
