Sonic the Hedgehogfansreallywant to see Maria get shot inSonic x Shadow Generations, as the new campaign will dive into the edgy hedgehog’s backstory.

Although it was leaked a few days before the event, one of the biggest surprises of last night’s PlayStation State of Play, was theawfully-named Sonic x Shadow Generations, a remaster of the the 2011 classic that also adds a campaign that puts focus on Shadow the Hedgehog for the first time in ages.

Considering how long it’s been since Shadow has been the focal point of anything in a Sonic game, fans are very excited to see what happens in Sonic x Shadow Generations. The trailer showcased some interesting scenes and locations that are linked to Shadow’s past, including Black Doom and what appears to be Westopolis from Shadow the Hedgehog’s first level.

Many fans theorised that Shadow would be revisiting his memories (which makes sense considering it’s based on Generations) and that’s something that’s beenconfirmed by the game’s Steam page description, which notes that Black Doom has returned and is threatening to take over the world, causing Shadow to face his own past and “confront painful memories”.

“Shadow must journey into his own past, confront painful memories, face familiar foes, and unlock new powers.”

Now, if you’re a Sonic fan then you no doubt know where the community hopes this is leading - Maria’s death at the hands of GUN. Since the game’s plot synopsis was revealed, Sonic fans have been reacting on Twitter and pushing for Maria’s death to be shown. One such fan is UltimaShadowX, who says, “From the Steam page, Black Doom deadass returns and is gonna traumatize his ass with 4K memories of Maria getting shot”.

Meanwhile,Twitter user Trey_Nobles pointed out that, thanks to Sonic 3 and Sonic x Shadow Generations, we’re likely going to see Maria get gunned down twice in one year, which is something that fans have been pushing for long ago when Sonic 3 was initially revealed.

Although all of this hype from fans over a poor little girl dying might seem weird and dark if you’re not a Sonic fan, it’s more because it’s such an important moment in Shadow the Hedgehog’s life that missing it out would be doing a disservice to his character. So, if you see fans celebrating Maria dying, it’s not quite as bad as you might think.
