Earlier this week,Shin Megami Tenseifans were left a little confused after what appeared to be a rating for a game titledShin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeancewas spotted on a Korean rating board. Following its discovery, the rating was swiftly removed for unknown reasons, pretty much confirming rumors back in 2023 that Atlus was working on a Complete Edition of the game.
Given that Shin Megami Tensei 5 is a Nintendo Switch exclusive, it made sense for the title to rear its head again during today’s Nintendo Direct, and that’s exactly what’s transpired. Officially revealed via a new trailer, it was confirmed that Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance is actually real and will launch on June 21 later this year. It’s currently unknown whether this version of the game will be exclusive to Nintendo Switch as well, though we’ll likely hear more soon if it’s coming to other systems as well.
Just as rumored in the Korean rating, Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance will include several improvements to the original title, as well as additional content which is being added in a similar fashion to other Shin Megami Tensei and Persona titles, including a brand-new chapter which will expand the story of the original game.
With this news, it looks as though Atlus is having a pretty productive year, with Shin Megami Tensei and Persona fans in particular eating well. On top of the recently released Persona 3 Reload and the now confirmed Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance, Atlus is also planning to release its long-awaited new IP Metaphor: ReFantazio later this year. We don’t have a confirmed release date for that one just yet though, withjust a window for Fall 2024 right now.
As for what else was announced in the Nintendo Direct, there were quite a few things to get the blood pumping despite it being quite a subdued showcase. For starters, Xbox finally revealed the start of its plans for certain exclusives to go multi-platform, as it announced thatboth Grounded and Pentiment will be making the leap to Nintendo Switch, with the latter dropping tomorrow. It’s currently still a mystery whether either of these titles will also be dropping on PlayStation.
On top of that, we also got the reveal ofa new Endless Ocean game called Luminous, which will include a multiplayer mode that supports up to 30 different players, as well asa Nintendo Switch remake of Epic Mickeyanda port of the original Monster Hunter Stories.
