Earlier this month,it was reported by Insider Gaming that a new roguelite Prince of Persia game was in developmentby Dead Cells developer Evil Empire and that it would be revealed at some point this month. As it turns out, that rumour was spot-on, as the brilliantly-titled The Rogue Prince of Persiahas just been announced at the Triple-i Initiative.

The Rogue Prince Of Persia Is Real

During the showcase, a reveal trailer debuted for The Rogue Prince of Persia, which showed off its gorgeous art style and gave us a glimpse at the roguelite gameplay in action. Just like the leak claimed, the game will launch on Steam in Early Access from May 14, which means that it’ll be continuously updated as time goes on, just like Dead Cells was.

We don’t know too much about the game’s plot so far, but it seems to star a unique take on the unnamed Prince that sets it apart from the Sands of Time trilogy and the recently released Lost Crown. It was also revealed that the Prince will be looking for a way to “save Persia from a Hun invasion wielding dark magic”.

It’s currently unclear if The Rogue Prince of Persia will be coming to console outside of Steam, but it’s likely that it will whenever it exits Early Access and goes into its 1.0 state.

Beyond that, we don’t know all that much about The Rogue Prince of Persia other than that it will focus on the same “death-defying platforming and acrobatic combat” that the series is known for. Although the roguelite premise is something that’s new for the series, it’s one that makes sense when you consider Prince of Persia’s origins, and something that looks like a good fit for Evil Empire.
