Summary

Dragon’s Dogma 2is a game where the journey is more important than the destination, although that doesn’t mean that the ending isn’t good. Quite the opposite, the final cutscenes are a thrill ride filled with drama, action and lots of free-falling.

And those scenes, much like other endings, left us with plenty of unanswered questions. The world of Dragon’s Dogma 2 is filled with people to meet and places to be, so once you finish the game with the True Ending, you can’t help but wonder what happened to all those you leave behind at the end, after the credits roll.

7Will Sven Be Accepted As Ruler?

He’s No Arisen After All

Most of the early game in Dragon’s Dogma 2takes place in Vermund, a city that was originally founded by an Arisen, and for that, they consider whoever is the current Arisen as their rightful ruler. Without an Arisen, the family of the previous ruler keeps the power, and right now that’s Queen Disa and her son, Sven.

When the Dragon showed up, it meant that an Arisen was soon to follow, and Queen Disa’s time in power would come to an end. Because of that, she created a ploy to keep her family in power, ensuring that, someday, her son Sven would inherit the throne.

That day came sooner than expected since once you break the cycle, there will be no more Arisen to take the throne in Vermund. As such, Sven is crowned at the end of the game, but it’s hard to know if the people of Vermund will truly accept him; Brant, for one, was devoted to the Arisen alone, putting his loyalty to this new “king” into question.

6Were The Elves Able To Return Home?

No Need To Move The Tree In The End

The Elves in Dragon’s Dogma 2 work like your classic Tolkien-esque style of Elf: they live long lives, have light hair with pointy ears, and are masters of the bow. They also worship the forest like a religion, their city being built around a massive sacred tree.

As you evacuate all cities at the end of the game, the Elvesare reluctant to leave their Sacred Arbor, their leader Taliesin preferring to die with their giant tree rather than abandon it. You manage to convince them by taking a branch of said tree and planting it somewhere safer, so they can build a new home.

That whole deal seems a bit pointless once you finish the game, since the cataclysmic event that was about to eat the world was stopped, meaning the Elves can now return safely to the Sacred Arbor. It’s hard to know if the Elves decide to go home in the end, or if they will choose to expand their domain by having two sacred trees instead of one.

5Will Pawns Receive Better Treatment?

They Were Little More Than Slaves Before

The Pawns have to be the strangest creatures in the Dragon’s Dogma series; they are far more resistant than most humans but lack the free will of one. As such, they are treated as tools anyone can use; the game even starts with a whole mining camp composed of slave masters and Pawns digging up artifacts.

Their poor treatment doesn’t end there since in Battahl, one of the largest cities of the game, Pawns are seen as bad omens and shunned in most establishments. We can only hope that, after being crucial in saving the world, the treatment of Pawns will improve towards equality with the other races.

4Is Your Main Pawn Dead?

They Are Hard To Kill After All

As the True Ending of Dragon’s Dogma unfolds, your main Pawn turns into a small dragon made of smoke, a form they seem to have a hard time controlling. Still, they remain ever loyal to you, so they fly you up to the sky to face the Dragon one final time.

If you max out your affinity with your Pawn, you get to see them turn back from the dragon form momentarily, but they still get tossed aside by the Dragon.

Their help is invaluable, allowing you to deal the final blow, but the last you see of them, they are cast aside after being crushed by the Dragon’s claw. With that, you can assume they died, but you can’t ever be sure, leaving us wondering if our dear Pawns survived that final confrontation to live another day.

3Are There Others Like The Pathfinder?

There’s Not Much We Know About Him

The Pathfinder is revealed to be the final antagonist of the game, which is not easy to get your head around since he starts as your biggest ally. Basically, he wants you to get the Good Ending, becoming an antagonist only if you go for the True Ending.

As an enemy, the Pathfinder is a terrifying force. He can control the Brine, people’s minds, and even summon the Dragon. While he’s ultimately defeated, we don’t know where he came from or if there are others like him waiting for an opportunity to send even more monsters toward mortals.

2What Lies Beyond The Sea?

No Brine Means Safer Travels

While you can get your feet wet in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you can’t actually swim, not because your character is bad at it, but because of the Brine, a strange entity that devours anything that goes slightly deep into a body of water. It was likely placed by the Pathfinder to keep everyone from traveling through the sea.

With that gone, overseas exploration can finally begin, the final scene after the credits suggesting that there’s more world over the horizon. What we’ll never know is what that world is like, since if within this small continent there are already Humans, Beastren, Dwarves, and Elves, who knows what other exotic beings might live on continents far away.

1Will There Ever Be A Dragon’s Dogma 3?

This Cycle Seemed Properly Ended

The Dragon’s Dogma franchise has always been about breaking cycles, since the true ending in both titles has you seeking a way to stop a never-ending loop of suffering. Yet the way you do so in the second game seemsmore definitive than before, completely breaking the status quo by removing a higher god (the Pathfinder) and the Brine holding the civilizations back.

With all that, can we ever expect to have a Dragon’s Dogma 3? Likely not in name, but in spirit, since it makes more sense to have a new game using the ideas of exploration of the series, with a new story that doesn’t rely on chosen ones and their Dragons.
