Three years ago, after its infamous reveal,Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remakewasindefinitely delayed. Since then, it changed developers andre-entered the concept phaseas Ubisoft Montreal took over from the Mumbai and Pune teams.

Ubisoft claimed at the time that the Montreal studio would be “building upon” the work that the Mumbai and Pune studios did, but according toInsider Gaming, that wasn’t true. Reportedly, The Sands of Time Remake is being “redone” from scratch.

What’s Different About The “Redone” Remake?

Insider Gaming claims that the remake is now taking a more “realistic approach”. One of the major criticisms levied against the reveal was the cartoonish art style, but it has reportedly undergone a complete graphical overhaul.

The combat and parkour have reportedly been revamped as well, and because Ubisoft Montreal restarted development from scratch, it has allegedly rewritten the script and re-recorded all mocap.

One of the biggest changes, however, is who will be voicing the Prince himself. The remake was originally set to bring back Yuri Lowenthal (Marvel’s Spider-Man,Helldivers 2), but he has reportedly been dropped from the project. It’s unclear who will take his place.

Ubisoft announced late last year in November thatthe remake had reached an “important milestone"in its development after restarting two years ago in 2022. It also said that it looked “forward to sharing more in the future”, but did not say when we could expect to see the newly revamped take on The Sands of Time.

Insider Gaming claims that we can expect “a more prominent update on the project soon”, but again, there’s no concrete window or any idea of what will be shown.

In the meantime, the newly releasedPrince of Persia: The Lost Crownis gettingstory DLC and extra free modesthroughout 2024, whileanother game from Dead Cells developer Evil Empire is reportedly launching later this year. We might not have The Sands of Time back on our shelves yet, but there’s plenty for Prince of Persia fans to gorge on
