We have really been spoiled to kick off 2024 with four very well-reviewed games released already, and it’s only the second day of February. The first of those four wasPrince of Persia: The Lost Crown, a 2.5D Metroidvania fromUbisoft, the quality of which took most people by surprise. Not everyone appears to have been quite as impressed by the Prince of Persia’s return, however, as it has been spotted on Walmart shelves for just $10.
No, you didn’t misread that. Someone claims to have found the brand new The Lost Crown onNintendo Switchat their local Walmart for the low, low price of $10. That’s $40 less than what you’d usually pay for it, and even that is a pretty great deal when the going rate for triple-A video games in 2024 is $70. The image was shared by Nintendeal, but there’s no way of knowing how widespread this incredible deal is.
The only way to know for sure if your local Walmart has The Lost Crown for just $10 is to go down there and check. You could call ahead, but best not to alert anyone to what might be a mistake, even if that mistake is localized to one store. There’s a strong chance it isn’t a mistake though following the move by major retailers to slowly remove most, if not all stock of physical video games from their shelves.
An image posted in reply to the post above indicates some Walmart stores may well be selling through their physical Switch game stock, every single game on the shelves heavily reduced with some down to just $5. An internal memo sent to Walmart staff was also leaked last month revealingan intention to remove all physical copies of Starfield stock. No opportunity to buy it for less as the memo implied the stock would be removed from sale and destroyed.
AlthoughXboxcontinues to demonstrate a desire to move away from physical copies of games entirely, this isn’t necessarily evidenceNintendointends to follow in its footsteps. There’s a strong chance Nintendo will announce a release date for the Switch’s successor any day now. The mass reduction of physical Switch games at Walmart may well be preparation for the arrival of Switch 2 games, potentially launching before the end of 2024.
