On the video game front, we don’t know exactly whatPokemonhas up its sleeve when it comes to this year’s Pokemon Day announcements. However, with its gaming slate now empty, it’s safe to assume there will be some big reveals. A Pokemon Presents is planned, but you may want to spend the rest of your Pokemon Day on eBay. The auction site is holding a special event during which some highly sought-after Pokemon items, including some very rare trading cards, will be up for grabs.
Dubbed Catch 151,eBay’s Pokemon auction daywill celebrate Gen One via more than just its name. Every single Pokemon auction from 12:01 am EST on February 27 until the same time on February 28 will begin at $1.51. Fun to think you might land some of the promised items for as little as a buck and a half, but there’s not much chance a bid that low will be the winning one, especially when you take a look at some of the items that’ll be up for grabs.
The core of eBay’s Catch 151 Pokemon Day celebrations are trading cards. Most notably trading cards from Pokemon’s Base Set First Edition, Charizard and Blastoise among them. For reference,a base set Charizard sold for a record-breaking $420,000in 2022. A year before that,a Blastoise card sold for $360,000. Alternative versions of Pokemon included in the TCG will also be available throughout the day, including Sabrina’s Gengar and Pokemon outside of the original 151 like Shining Tyranitar.
eBay’s Pokemon Day auctions may be your best chance to add a Van Gogh Pikachu card to your collection too. The card that puts Pikachu in a grey felt hat will also be up for grabs, and even thoughthe card will be wildly distributed in the Netherlands this weekend, that’s no good for those of us who won’t be passing through Amsterdam on Saturday. The auctions will feature more than just cards. There will also be appearances from items in some of Pokemon’s recent high-end crossovers as Fendi and Tiffany products will be getting in on the fun.
Confirmed to be up for auction through eBay on Pokemon Day is Tiffany’s solid gold Pikachu pendant. Studded with diamonds, the pendant wasthe crown jewel of the Pokemon x Tiffany eventrevealed at the end of 2023. Fendi followed in Tiffany’s footsteps andteamed with Pokemon at the turn of the yearto celebrate the Year of the Dragon. Fendi’s Peekaboo Petite Dratini bag will be among the items being auctioned on February 27.
