Persona 3 Reloadlaunches today, bringing the iconic 2006 RPG back for old and new fans alike. While it faithfully recreates the story and characters, there are a lot of changes to be found. In fact, we’ve already noticed a bunch of game mechanics tweaks, particularly with our navigator, Fuuka Yamagishi.
In Persona 3 Reload, Fuuka has received some changes to her kit, making her much more useful both in and outside of battle. For starters, she has an SP meter and can even level up like a normal party member. This unlocks a range of abilities that she can use, and even the abilities she already had have been altered slightly, seemingly to make her more useful as a character.
These changes were noted by our Evergreen SpecialistGabrielle Castania, who’s already hard at work putting together guides on Persona 3 Reload. During her playthrough, she shared some of the changes made to Fuuka with us, so we know what to expect.
The abilities that Gabrielle found most useful were getting Fuuka to make the player invisible to shadows in Tartarus, and also buffing the party mid-battle. She added that Fuuka’s ability to scan for enemy weaknesses no longer takes up a full turn, and can be activated using SP instead.
Persona 3 Reload is sadly not a definitive version of Persona 3. It lacks the female protagonist fromPersona 3 Portable, which launched in 2009 and was ported to modern consoles last year.
This is far from the only qualify of life improvement made to Persona 3 Reload. As we reported back when our review went live, you may also rewind time by a few days, so you can go back and complete any time-sensitive tasks you accidentally missed. You can’t do this indefinitely, as we were only able to turn back time by a few days, but it comes in handy and should hopefully mean you don’t have to keep a bunch of backup saves in case you mess up a timed event.
Fans will only be getting their hands on Persona 3 Reload today, so it remains to be seen how the community feels about all of the changes introduced in this remake. Our Lead Features Editor,Jade King, enjoyed it overall, giving it 4/5 in her review. She did, however, feel that it lost some of Persona 3’s soul in an attempt to improve its style, so it’s not without its drawbacks.
