Persona 3 Reloadis out now, and it’s a hit. Sitting at an 89 on Metacritic and overwhelmingly positive reviews onSteam, it’s going down incredibly well with fans and critics alike.
However, being a remake of a game from 2006, it’s made more than a few changes to the writing and the gameplay. One that we noticed while making our way through the game before release concerns an optional dungeon, one that most players would have explored towards the end of the game. Yet with the changes made in Reload, that might not be the case anymore.
This comes courtesy of our Evergreen SpecialistGabrielle Castania, who’s working on our guides for Persona 3 Reload. While making her way through the game, she told us about a change to the Monad Depths that she feels turns the area from an end-game challenge to a fairly standard optional dungeon.
Reload removes the requirement to kill the Reaper to access the Monad Depths. Being level 99, it’s unlikely that you’ll be defeating the Reaper until the end of the game, which would normally open up Monad Depths.
But in Reload, with this requirement removed, you just have the find the entrance and defeat another enemy. Gabrielle says that this is still difficult enough, but it’s not on the same level as having to take down the Reaper, so some fans of the original may be disappointed.
If you’ve yet to check out a single Persona 3 re-release,we have a guide on all of the version differences, since between this andPersona 3 Portable, it can be hard to tell where to start. Perhaps the biggest disappointment with Persona 3 Reload is the fact that you’re able to’t play as the female protagonist from Portable, so don’t pick up this latest remake expecting that.
We’ve noted some of the larger changes made to the original too, likereworking Fuuka’s abilities to be more useful in and out of battle, andadding the ability to rewind timeand complete any tasks you accidentally missed. It was also quickly spotted thattransphobic dialogue from the original game has been rewritten, instead making the punchline that the beautiful lady the guys try to hit on is a conspiracy theorist, putting them off entirely.
If you want to check the remake out for yourself, Persona 3 Reload is out now, available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
