Paramount and Maximum Entertainment are teaming up on a competitiveAvatar: The Last Airbendermultiplayer fighting game.
As reported byGematsu, details are scarce right now. We don’t know what platforms it will launch on or what it will look like, but we do know that it will be released in early access next year.
We are thrilled to announce that we have entered into a partnership with Paramount Consumer Products to develop a competitive multiplayer fighting game set in [the] Avatar: The Last Airbender universe.
For an idea of what to expect, Maximum Entertainment was founded in 2009 and primarily published family games for the DS and Wii, notably Junior Brain Trainer and Junior Classic Games. More recently, you may know it as the publisher of Skully, Cris Tales, and Rock of Ages 3. As such, we don’t know who will be developing this Avatar fighting game yet, only who will be publishing it.
It’s not the first fighting game to see Avatar characters throw down. As recently as 2023, Aang, Korra, Azula,Zuko, and Iroh were all members of theNickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2roster.
In the game before that, Toph was a playable character. But with a title dedicated to the series and nothing else, we’ll no doubt finally see other icons like Katara, Sokka, and Firelord Ozai.
The original Avatar series ended way back in 2008 and its sequel, The Legend of Korra, came to a close in 2014. But ten years later, things are heating back up.
Not only is there a controversial live-action series in development partly inspired by Game of Thrones, debuting on Netflix with eight episodes on February 22, but several animated projects continuing the original show’s story are in production.
Firstly, there’s an untitled film about adult Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, and Zuko. It’s slated to be released next year. There’s also a show in development about the next Avatar, now born into the Earth nation as the cycle moves on from Korra. Finally, we have a standalone Zuko movie and a prequel setbeforeAang, all about the Avatar Kyoshi.
So, on the docket, we have a live-action series, a new fighting game, a sequel animated series, and three animated movies. It’s been quiet since The Legend of Korra ended, but Avatar fans will be spoiled for choice over the next few years.
