A newMagic: the GatheringSecret Lair set has been revealed, and it contains a huge mistake. While the announcement acknowledges the glaring error on one of the set’s cards, it also states that it won’t be fixed before it ships out to customers.
The misprint affects the Circular Logic card found in the Deceptive Divination, which was revealed last night. Now, as pre-orders go live, the storefront page for the set states that the misprint will not be addressed, and customers will be sent the Circular Logic card that’s incorrectly printed as a sorcery, not an instant.
The issue is acknowledged in the item description, withWizards of the Coasttelling fans, “We assure you, you can still cast it as an instant and the oracle text rules remain accurate.” So, you’ll still be able to use Circular Logic in response to your opponent’s moves.
On top of confirming that this isn’t a bizarre rule change, the item description also states that Deceptive Divination has been hit with a £5 discount “as a token of our embarrassment.” So, the foil edition of the set is £34.99, and the non-foil version is £24.99.
The copy of the card Circular Logic found in the “Deceptive Divination” drop was inadvertently printed as a sorcery, though we assure you, you can still cast it as an instant and the oracle text rules remain accurate. The error is found in both foil and non-foil versions. As a token of our embarrassment, please enjoy a £5 discount on this drop.
As noted by our tabletop editorJoe Parlock, this error going to print is all thanks to MTG moving away from print-to-order. Now, it’s printing a set amount of cards and selling from this limited stock, meaning there’s less time to spot these mistakes and address them before they get to players.
It also means that competition to get these cards will be fierce if they prove particularly popular. Joe has noted that there’s already a queue to place an order on this Secret Lair drop, so you might be in for a wait. While you’re then given ten minutes to make your purchase, you’ll get sent to the back of the queue if anything goes wrong, reducing your chances of being able to nab the cards you’re after.
Hopefully, this doesn’t cause too much confusion among players. Although, really, they seemed more confused as to how Circular Logic would work as a sorcery in the first place. Pre-orders are open now while stocks last.
