Paramount just dropped its first trailer for the Knuckles TV series, described as a “six episode event” with Idris Elba reprising the role of the titular echidna.

It confirms thatSonicand Tails will appear; introduces us to the villain, a former Robotnik employee; reveals that Pachacamac, the Knuckles Clan warlord who debuted in the Sonic Adventure game, has returned, and finally puts Knuckles in his iconic cowboy hat.

Pachacamac first appeared in the original Sonic film. He hunted Sonic to Longclaw’s home in search of the Master Emerald. Now, he’s working in a bowling alley for some reason.

Rory McCann, who played the Hound in Game of Thrones and Michael Armstrong in Hot Fuzz, appears to be the main villain. He’s attempting to harness Knuckle’s abilities to power his “newest creation”. What that is exactly is unknown.

Sonic the Hedgehog director Jeff Fowler directed the pilot episode of the Knuckles TV series and is serving as an executive producer on the show. It’s set between Sonic 2 and the upcoming Sonic 3, filling in the blanks of what Knuckles got up to betweenadventures. Get it, cause…Sonic Adventure?Anyway.

Knuckles… without his little friends, he’s vulnerable. He’s the key to power my newest creation.

It looks like Sonic and Tails won’t be recurring characters, instead making brief cameos, given that the villain mentions they aren’t present and that Knuckles is on his own for this fight. As for who the villain is, it’s unclear. He may be an original creation for the show.

The trailer gives us a vague idea of his motives and a glimpse at Knuckle’s attempts to fit into this new world he’s found himself in (i.e. starting a colosseum where he pits dogs against humans). We also finally get to see him"[training] Wade as an echidna warrior", AKA the police officer we see driving him around.

Joining Elba and McCann are Stockard Channing, Edi Patterson, Scott Mescudi, Ellie Taylor, Julian Barratt, Cary Elwes, Christopher Lloyd, Paul Scheer, Rob Huebel, Tika Sumpter, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, and Ben Schwartz. Alongside Fowler, Jorma Taccone, Ged Wright, Brandon Trost, and Carol Banker will direct, with John Whittington, Brian Schacter and James Madejski writing the scripts.

Knuckles premieres on Paramount+ on April 26, with Sonic the Hedgehog 3 to follow on December 20.
