A talentedKingdom Heartsmodder has added 0.2: Birth by Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage’s infamous post-game boss, Zodiac Phantom Aqua, toKingdom Hearts 3.
Before the release of Kingdom Hearts 3, many fans were worried that Osaka Team (the primary developers of Kingdom Hearts games post KH2) wouldn’t be able to provide good boss battles after the mess of post-game fights we saw in Birth by Sleep and Dream Drop Distance. Those fears were eventually put aside after Kingdom Hearts 3 released, but the developer’s skills were actually proven before that in 0.2.
Not only did A Fragmentary Passage give us some great bosses in the main campaign (including some that would go on to appear in Kingdom Hearts 3)but the highlight was Zodiac Phantom Aqua, a much more difficult post-game version of the regular Phantom Aqua fight. It’s one of the standout moments in the game, and something that can’t be found outside of 0.2… until now.
As pointed out by Twitter user dallin1016, talented Kingdom Hearts creator Aproydtix hasput together a mod that adds A Fragmentary Passage’s infamously tough boss battle to Kingdom Hearts 3. The mod, which is available to download on Nexus Mods right now, adds a large mirror to the Garden of Assemblage that, when interacted with, transports you to a fight with Zodiac Phantom Aqua.
Aproydtix is also responsible for the incredible Olympus Coliseum mod for Kingdom Hearts 3, which finally adds in one of the game’s most confusing missing features.
The mod isn’t just a straight port of the fight from 0.2, though, as Zodiac Phantom Aqua has been adapted to work with Kingdom Hearts 3’s combat. Minor changes have also been made to her offensive and defensive stats that make her better match up with the rest of the data battles, which sounds like it makes her a harder boss than she once was.
Not only is it cool to specifically see Zodiac Phantom Aqua outside of 0.2, it’s also neat to finally have a way to battle Aqua after encountering her in the main game. Her boss battle is one of the highlights of Kingdom Hearts 3’s endgame, and there’s no way to replay it without restarting the whole game over or saving just before, so if you were looking for a rematch there’s no better way than this mod.
