On the final day ofPersona 3 Reload, your team arrives in the Dark Hour ready to take on Nyx for the fate of the world, but the two remaining Strega members stand firmly in your way. Waiting on separate floors, both Jin and Takaya will try to stop you from making it to the final fight.

Jin is first, and he’s had plenty of time to improve since you last fought. With a heightened ability to target your teammate’s weaknesses and a powerful stat boost he uses as a last-minute Hail Mary, here’s how to handle Jin in P3R.

Once you go into Tartarus on the Promised Day, you’re not able to leave until winning the battle.

The operative part here, regardless of who you bring along, isgiving Jin as few weaknesses to exploit as possible.

Use Shadows To Charge Your Theurgy Before Engaging Jin

Unlike previous iterations of Persona 3 that didn’t rely on the new Theurgy mechanic, before you head up to face Jin himself, you’ll first need to navigate a floor filled with Shadows once you push into the final section of the Adamah block on January 31.

If you’re strong enough that the Shadows don’t bother you, you’re free to roam the halls as you’d like looking for last-minute treasures to bring into NG+ with you, but the real reason these Shadows are here is to let you battle them to charge your Theurgy gauge for the battle ahead.

Jin has a much larger HP pool than he did before, so it’s worth spending some time down here building up your more powerful attacks to bring into the fight and give yourself an early advantage.

Jin Shirato January 31 Battle Guide

Phase One: Watch Your Weaknesses

The battle with Jin begins after some sad exposition before he engages you in a fight. Though he was able to in some capacity when you battled him and Takayaback in November, Jin has spent the last couple of months sharpening one of his more bothersome skills:his ability to target your weaknesses.

His Persona, Moros, is now able to useWeakness Scan, and Jin will do so on his first offensive turn in battle. Immediately, he’ll follow this up with an attack that sharp-shoots someone’s weakness, potentially offering him a follow-up attack if it lands. As such, you’ll need toleave as few weak points in your team as possible.

The best opportunity to shield everyone else on the team is with accessories, but your protagonist changes affinities as he changes Personas, so be mindful of your Persona’s affinities when you swap.

Jin’s turns are typically spentattacking first and buffing/debuffing secondafter exploiting any follow-up attacks he may have gotten, which always go directly to the same teammate to continue laying on heavy damage and possibly rendering them too Dizzy to take their next turn when it’s time.

One of Jin’s new tricks is hisEX Flash Grenade, which damages and stands a good chance atinflicting Confuse to the party. As such, be sure toheal ailments as they comeat your party, as there’s plenty of fight ahead of you on 1/31 and you don’t want to extend the fight with Jin or go into a subsequent fight with higher damage.

Throughout the battle, not only should you beusing your Theurgy as soon as it’s chargedfor your active combatant teammates, but keep an eye out for Fuuka’s Theurgy as well, as she’s able to provide plenty of perks like replenishing HP/SP or helping you Focus before your next attack.

Phase Two: Potent Stim Injection

The second part of the fight begins when Jin usesPotent Stim Injectionon himself once you’ve chipped away enough of his HP. This attackreplenishes Jin’s HPandsharply boosts his attack stat, but at the huge price ofdraining his HP each turn. He only uses it once he’s truly desperate, but you’ll need to play smart to not let him exploit this power boost.

Lay into Jin with everything you have after he gives himself the shot. After he injects himself, he’ll hit the team withMegidolaondealing severe Almighty damage that cannot be blocked, so be ready to heal if he hits you while you’re low on HP. Him using Megidolaon, though, hurts him, too, given the effects of his injection.

There’s likely not much fight left in Jin by the time he uses his boosted Megidolaon, so give him everything you’ve got to finish the fight, then settle in for some truly disheartening cutscenes before moving on to battle Takaya.
