Dragon’s Dogma 2andBaldur’s Gate 3might be some of the greatest RPGs we’ve seen this gaming generation. Although they have a lot of differences, both these games have been compared a lot online, and fans have speculated if Dragon’s Dogma 2 lives up to the incredibly high standard set by Baldur’s Gate 3.
This article will let you know which of the two games is better based on their gameplay, story, combat, and more. Although we will try to remain as subjective as possible, keep in mind that there will be some personal biases while judging these criteria.

Gameplay - Baldur’s Gate 3
Baldur’s Gate 3’s gameplay is incredibly varied and offers players avast variety of choices in terms of combat as well as different interactionsin the typical Dungeons & Dragons style. This amount of flexibility makes the gameplay loop a lot more fun and adds another layer of immersion.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 has limited fast travel and a carry-weight system, which makes traveling even slower. This means that you will have to focus on clearing each part of the world before you move on to the next in old-school RPG fashion. Although there is a certain charm to the gameplay of Dragon’s Dogma 2, it isn’t anywhere near as fun as Baldur’s Gate 3.
Combat - Dragon’s Dogma 2
Both of these games have a completely different approach when it comes to combat. Baldur’s Gate 3 takes a turn-based style, which relies a lot more on having a good strategy and being methodical with your moves. Although this is fun in its own way, a majority of players nowadays prefer faster-paced action.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 excels in terms of its combat, as it is very smooth and fast-paced. This game also requiresa lot of strategy, as many enemies have their strengths and weaknesses. Fighting these bosses and hordes of monsters can be quite challenging, which makes the combat much more fun.
Story - Baldur’s Gate 3
The story is one of the most important parts of any RPG, and Baldur’s Gate 3 easily surpasses Dragon’s Dogma 2. Baldur’s Gate 3 hasa lot more variations when it comes to its endings, and the overall storyline just feels more immersive throughout.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 does improve on its predecessor in terms of its storyline, but the series as a whole doesn’t tend to do too well in this aspect. A lot of the cutscenes in this game can be bland and slow-paced, andthe overall narrative just doesn’t feel as imposingas it does in any great RPG.
Graphics - Baldur’s Gate 3
While both these games don’t have the most incredible graphics for modern standards, there’s not much to criticize about them. Dragon’s Dogma 2’s darker art style is perfectly suited to its theme, while Baldur’s Gate 3 has amazing and well-detailed characters and animations, which are its standout features.
It is tough to judge these games in terms of their graphics, as it is mostly up to preference, but the fact thatBaldur’s Gate 3 offers much better performancewhile not being too graphically demanding gives it the edge in this category.
World - Tie
The world of Dragon’s Dogma 2 is packed with stuff to do, whether it be side quests or random character interactions. Although the lack of proper fast travel can seem terrifying at first, it isn’t actually all that bad asthe intricacies and details within the map keep you constantly entertained. The kingdom of Vermund, especially, is beautifully designed and feels amazing to explore.
Baldur’s Gate 3 features a much bigger map that spans across nine cities and many other smaller areas to explore. While Baldur’s Gate 3 also offers a lot of side content and a much larger map, the densely packed world of Dragon’s Dogma 2 is just as fun.
Character Customization - Baldur’s Gate 3
One of the key characteristics that made Baldur’s Gate 3 so good wasits in-depth character customization system, which is something Dragon’s Dogma 2 has taken inspiration from. You can customize your character, the Arisen, as well as your main pawn in Dragon’s Dogma 2, while you can customize your main character and your companions in BG3.
While Dragon’s Dogma 2 does a great job with its customization system, with there being a variety of options to choose from in each category,it’s almost impossible to recreate what Baldur’s Gate 3 did in this aspectwith its almost perfect character customization system, which is the most detailed in video game history.
Companions - Dragon’s Dogma 2
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a single-player game, and the only company you’re going to have in your adventures are your Pawns. These Pawns are surprisingly good and provide hints throughout your journey from their previous experiences with past players. You can also hire the pawns of your friends, which is a small but very cool addition.
The companion system in Baldur’s Gate 3is well-designed, with each character having their own unique backstories and personalities, but the Pawns in Dragon’s Dogma 2 are truly revolutionary and make the game a lot better.
Final Verdict - Baldur’s Gate 3
It might be obvious by now, but Baldur’s Gate 3 is just a much better game than Dragon’s Dogma 2 for several reasons. It’s not that Dragon’s Dogma 2 does many things wrong, butit will take a special game to match the standards set by BG3, and it might take years for that to happen. There are barely any flaws in Baldur’s Gate 3, and even stuff like its turn-based combat system is just a matter of preference rather than anything inherently bad.
Although it falls behind Baldur’s Gate 3, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is still an incredible game that many players will love. Apart from some of its performance issues and certain annoying, optional microtransactions, there is nothing too bad about this game. The incredibly detailed world and the pawn system of this game alone make it worth playing, and the rest of its features, such as its different, detailed vocations, make it even better.
