Legendary items some of the rarest and most powerful you can use inLast Epoch.A good Legendary can carry a build’s survivability, damage output, or offer so much utility that it frees up space for entirely new item affixes or skills.
But unlike most ARPGs, you won’t stumble across a Legendary from slain monsters or Monolith caches. You’ll need to forge one yourself. Thankfully, the process of creating a Legendary item is fairly simple. Get your hands on a Unique with Legendary Potential, and you can start the process of creating your own Legendary item in Last Epoch.
What Is Legendary Potential?
Legendary Potential (LP for short) is an implicit that can drop on virtually all Unique items in Last Epoch.Any Unique with Legendary Potential can be upgraded into a Legendary bycompleting the Temporal Sanctum dungeon.Legendary items take the core of a Unique and merge them with an Exalted item, adding affixes from the Exalted item onto the Unique.
The end result is an item of immense power, typically best-in-slot with the right affixes. Excluding a handful of leveling Uniques,every Unique in Last Epoch can drop with 1-4 Legendary Potential.This number represents how many affixes a Unique can steal from an Exalted item. The higher the number, the more affixes that Unique can obtain when it becomes a Legendary.
As of Patch 1.0, the following Uniques cannot drop with Legendary Potential: Avarice, Gambler’s Fallacy, and Orchirian’s Petals.
All three items have upgraded variants that can be found inthe Soulfire Bastion dungeon. These variantscandrop with Legendary Potential.
Legendary Potential Rarity
While just about every Unique in Last Epoch can roll with Legendary Potential, that doesn’t mean you should expect to see 4LP on every item you stumble across. Last Epoch’s Legendary Potential system is mostly tuned to bring lower-tier Uniques into relevance, and it does so through LP rarity.
Every Unique in Last Epoch has an LP coefficient that determines how likely it is to roll Legendary Potential. The higher this number, the less likely it is to drop with LP.Generally speaking, stronger Uniques are far less likely to drop with Legendary Potential.Weaker items frequently drop with 2LP, while middling items drop with 1LP. It’s theoretically possible to get a desirable Unique with 4LP, but the chances of this happening are so small that the probability needs to be expressed in scientific notation.

In simpler terms,items above LP2 are fairly rare, and chase Uniques with more than 1LP are exceedingly rare.If you find an item with 3LP or higher, we highly recommend you wait for the perfect Exalted item to drop before evolving the Unique into a Legendary.
As of Patch 1.0, the only way to increase your chances of finding Legendary Potential isRank 6 of the Circle of Fortune.This doubles the likelihood that you’ll find Legendary Potential on a Unique. Outside of that, you can look at farming Unique Prophecies with guaranteed Legendary Potential, or you can purchase a Unique with LP outright through the Merchant’s Guild.
How To Use Legendary Potential
Any item with Legendary Potential can be transformed into a Legendary bycompleting the Temporal Sanctum dungeon.Before you delve into this difficult dungeon, you’ll need a few things:
Once you have all three items, make your way to the Temporal Sanctum dungeon. You’ll find the entrance in the Divine Era near the southern edge of the map, located near The Coast. Enter the time portal, clear the zone, and you should find the gate to the Temporal Sanctum. Insert your key and select a difficulty tier. This will determine the maximum item level you can forge into a Legendary.
Using The Eternity Cache
You may only craft one Legendary item per Temporal Sanctum run. Choose wisely.
Upon completing the Temporal Sanctum dungeon, you will find theEternity Cache, an ancient device that can turn Uniques with Legendary Potential into proper Legendary items. While in the Divine Era (gilded room),insert the LP Unique and an accompanying Exalted item.Be sure the Exalted item has ideal affixes, asit will be destroyed in the process.If you need to craft or duplicate the item with a Rune of Creation, now’s the time.
Once both items are inserted into the Eternity Cache and locked in,switch to the Ruined Era(Void room). You will find your newly-crafted Legendary item.The Legendary Potential will be replaced with affixes from the consumed Exalted items.The affixes your Legendary will inherit are completely random, excluding sealed affixes which are never chosen. If you don’t get your desired affixes, you’ll need to start the process over again with a new Unique.
