Stardew Valleyis a captivating farm simulation game that allows players to explore their inner farmer by growing crops, raising livestock, and interacting with friendly neighbors. Among the vast range of features in Stardew Valley, there is theRNG(Random Number Generator), which is the basis of many of the events and outcomes in the game.
However, with time, more capable players managed to decrypt patterns and use the RNG to their advantage, resulting in gameplay imbalances. Retiring the old system, the developers implementedLegacy Randomization,which clears out opportunities for RNG exploitation when turned off.
Legacy Randomization Explained
In the early versions of Stardew Valley (before the 1.6 update), theRNG system of the game was predictableand thus allowed the player to make advancementsin the game by exploiting it. This predictabilityfostered manipulative gameplay tactics, allowing players to easily succeed in various tasks, undermining the challenge and depth of the gameplay experience.
However, with the1.6 update, the developers of Stardew Valleychanged RNG patternsto make the probabilities relatively unpredictable. This change means that the skillful players mustput their former predictions away, as they are no longer used; this adjustment likely aims to enhance game balance, introducing greater difficulty and curbing exploitative gameplay practices.
Conversely, recognizing that some of the players have already been used to the predictability of the old RNG patterns, the developers added the option calledLegacy Randomization. This feature allows players to toggle on a setting that enables the old RNG patterns again.
Legacy Randomization can be helpful if you enjoy speedrunning. Still, there may be better solutions for others who want to play in a manner predetermined by the devs. If you want to walk through the experience as it was meant to be and challenge your gaming skills, you should turn off this option.
How to Access Legacy Randomization
you may access Legacy Randomization in theCharacter Customization Menu. Turn this option on if you want to keep the old predictable RNG patterns in the Stardew Valley, but if you’re going to try out new RNG patterns, turn it off.
