How To Get Lanterns

By default, all characters, pawns included, come equipped with a fully-fueled lantern. By merit of the fact that it comes with you, you may not even give it a second thought, assuming the lantern is simply a built-in feature.

That said, the lantern is still just an object meaning it can be sold, lost, or even just deposited in storage, leaving you without a handy light by your hip. In the event of you permanently losing your lantern, have no fear. They can be found randomly at times, and failing that, theycan be purchased from most general stores in towns pre-fueledfor your travails.

How To Use Lanterns

Lanterns are a simple system, though one that is essential to the experience of Dragon’s Dogma 2. So long as a lantern is in your inventory,it will be automatically equippedto your character, with the same true of pawns.

From there, you have two ways of lighting and extinguishing it - either by interacting with the item in your inventory or through the shortcut menu on the left shoulder button (LB or L1 depending on your controller).

Important to remember is thatlanterns have multiple levels of lightingdepending on how much oil is left in them, which are as follows:

The use of the Radiance augment, acquired from the Archer vocation, makes your lantern shine even brighter and makes it consume less oil to boot.

Thankfully, lanterns never become redundant. There is no durability associated with them and even if they fully run out of oil, they can still be refueled. Just verify tokeep it topped up.

How To Refuel Lanterns

Essential as they are to your journey, it is important to always have not just a lantern by your hip, but the means to refuel it as well. Thankfully, this process is exceedingly simple.

Since lanterns can just be refueled, there’s no need to hang on to any extras you acquire. Feel free to sell them off.

To refuel your lantern, you simplyselect it in your inventory (or select the oil) and use the option to add oil. This will consume a bottle of oil from your inventory and refill your lantern to the maximum. Nice and easy.

Acquiring oil is thankfully without hardship as well. Outside of finding it in the world and purchasing it at shops, you can craft it right in your inventory. All it takes is combining two pieces of rotten food (be it meat, fish, or fruit) to get a bottle. So make sure youdon’t just throw away those mouldy chunksand give them a new life inside your lantern.

Lantern Oilcan also be used inthe creation of certain arrows, so they have a dual purpose beyond just your lantern as well.
