He’ll introduce you to many invaluable technologies that are unlockable via the Technology Development tree. But what is the Technology Development tree, and how do you use it? We’ll clue you in.
What Is Technology Development?
Technology Developmentis a skill-building tool that gives you access tospecialized weapons and devices. It operates the same as normal skill development, except for more requirements. Most technologies require a certainbond level with Igashichi Iizuka, a minimum number offoreign books, astory progression goal, and acoin fee.
You’ll pursue technology development with Igashichi Iizuka, meaning investing in it will significantly increase your bond with him.

Foreign Books
Igashichi conducts plenty of research to inform his tinkering, like any inventor worth his merit. He’ll rely on you to gather foreign books to advance his studies. Gifting Igashichi foreign books will also improve your bond with him.
So, how do you get foreign books? You’ll have to become a bit of a completionist.Completing Bond and Grass Roots Missionswill earn you several books. Many of thehidden treasure chestsin each area also contain foreign books. Have fun grinding!

What Technologies Can I Develop?
You can developfive types of technologyin Rise Of The Ronin. Each technology serves a different purpose. For instance, tools like The Avicula and Detector will significantly assist you with your stealth tactics. Meanwhile, tools like the fire pipe will give you a potent offensive option in battle. We recommend investing in all these technologies to improve your skills and gameplay experience.
Camera
One of the first technologies you’ll develop with Igashichi is aprototype camera- a modern marvel of the late 19th century!
Discovering photography opens up plenty of opportunities in Rise Of The Ronin. Every area has a handful oflandmark photosyou can take to raise your bond with the region. Plus, you cancomplete photography jobs for the photographic studioin exchange for silver coins and other rewards.
Your camera is also anessential tool for several story missions. In fact, one of your first missions in Yokohama will involve photographing high-profile officials inside the Miyozaki Pleasure District.
Once you’ve progressed far enough with your technology development, you’ll get toupgrade your camera to take underwater photos. How cool is that?

Avicula
Another starter technology you’ll learn from Igashichi is theAvicula. Igashichi’s newly invented hang glider stems from the Latin term for “little bird.”
The Avicula is a technology you cannot afford to go without. It makes traveling so much faster, allowing you tofly from building to buildingin transit to a new destination. Your stealth game will become top-notch with skills likeAvicula assassinations and Avicula firebombing!
Some Avicula upgrades require you to completeGlider Training, which you may discover on your map by completing area bonds.
Fire Pipe
When the term “flamethrower” comes up, we imagine your first thought would not be 1800s Japan. After all, the weapon seems ingrained in pop culture as a 90s action movie mainstay. However, that’s essentially what theFire Pipeis.
The Fire Pipe is adeadly, explosive weapon with a refillable fuel tank.You can shoot enemies with it to give them theBurn afflictionor shoot nearby explosives to cause widespread damage to a group of foes.
After you develop the Fire Pipe technology, you must complete the Bond MissionA Lucky Find Put To Usebefore you can use it.
Detector
Have you struggled to break into a bandit-run, unruly area without getting caught? If that’s the case, theDetectoris the perfect tool for you. This gramophone-looking object plays an inaudible frequency, allowing you todetect nearby enemies from around corners and behind walls.
Once you begin Chapter 3 in Kyoto, you canupgrade your Detector so it finds other targets, like plants and cats.You can also use the Technology Development tree to increase the Detector’s range.
