InPath of Exile, new players immediately see the massive skill tree as they level up in the campaign. After finishing the campaign, they’ll be surprised by another massive skill tree, but this time, it is the atlas skill tree. All the PoE veterans know that the atlas skill tree is one of the most fun things you can experiment with in the game.

However, if you start committing atlas passive skill points to a specific mechanic and get bored, you’ll be punished by farming currency to reset your atlas skills. In the Necropolis update, Grinding Gear Games introduced a great quality of life update by adding two more atlas skill tree slots, but you have to unlock them first. Here’s how you can unlock them.

How Do You Unlock Atlas Tree Slots?

If you press “G” and open the atlas (not CTRL + G), you’ll see your map progress.Hover over your current map progress, and you’ll see"You unlock an additional Atlas Skill Tree at 50 and 100 completed bonus objectives.“Finish the milestones to unlock each of the atlas tree slots.

But,how do you complete these bonus objectives? This is one of the most confusing aspects of the game for new players because sometimes, you finish a map and end up not finishing the bonus objective. Here’s a quick rundown of the bonus objective completion mechanics:

Tiers six to ten

Tiers 11 to 16

Finish the map by eliminating the boss.

Once you have finished 50 or 100 bonus objectives, you can click the drop-down menu on the top of your screen, and you’ll see two or three available atlas skill trees. Each atlas skill tree will have its separate tree, butyour refund points will be shared among the three slots you have.

Best Strategy For Finishing All Your Map Objectives

At the start of every season or league, the biggest hurdle after the campaign is acquiring maps and finishing map bonus objectivesas fast as possible. Sincemap bonus objectives give you one atlas skill point each, you need all these to continuously buff your farm through atlas passive skills.

To solve the problem of acquiring maps at the start of the league, you want topath your atlas skill tree towards the map nodes. Your goal is to get as many “Tier 1-15 maps that have an “X” percent chance of becoming one tier higher” nodes, as they’ll give youthe best chance of progressing through your atlas completionbecause you will be getting higher-tier maps even if you do low-tier content.

You will occasionally reach a point where you might run out of maps.

Here’s what you need to do if you run out of maps:

If you do all of these and still end up with no maps and no currency to buy maps, you might have been slacking by not finishing off all the monsters in your maps, or you kept failing some of the maps. In this case, you shouldgo to Act 9 - Blood Aqueduct and farm maps from the campaign.

Once you reach around 20-25 bonus objectives completions or atlas skill points and allocate them in your atlas map nodes, you should have infinite sustainability with maps. It is all about finding the right map and this is where your Orb of Horizons comes into play.
