Relationships are a core part of games that have a life-sim element to them. While many people are excited about the romantic possibilities of relationships, there’s also Friendship that needs to be cultivated first. This is no different inPalia, and interacting with the characters helps make the experience immersive.
Each character in Palia boasts superior voice acting and multiple dialog lines. Building Friendships with every resident of Kilima Village and Bahari Bay may just become a favorite pastime, especially if you’re excited about romancing characters. There are actually elements of the game you’ll miss if you don’t build Friendships.

How Does Friendship Level Work In Palia?
While Friendship and romance are closely linked in Palia,you won’t be able to romance anyone if you haven’t reached maximum level with their Friendshipfirst. Progressing Friendships with villagers reveals more about each individual’s story.
Each character hasspecial quests at certain checkpointsas you level up the Friendship. Friendshipquests occur at levels two, three, and four.
Characters have a special area, such as a bedroom or peaceful spot,that they don’t share with you until Friendship level three or four.Additional voice lines will become availableas you level up the Friendship of the villagers.
How To Raise Friendship Levels
There aretwo main ways to raise Friendship levels fastwith characters in Palia.
Talk To Villagers
The first is talking with the villagers. You cantalk to each villager once every Palian day in-gameto gain some Friendship. Each day in-game is about one hour in real life, soif you have a few hours each dayor week to chat with villagersyou will see progress.
Gift Items To Villagers
Thesecond, and most effective way to gain Friendship quickly is by gifting itemsto villagers. You can’t gift any old item, however. You’ll have tochat with the villagers enough to learn what their weekly requests are.
Dailygifts can be given once every IRL day. Theday resets at 10pm CT.
Thenumber of weekly requests you can view correlates to the Friendship level of the character. If you are atFriendship level one, you’ll be able to see one itemthat a character wants.
At maximum Friendship level of four,you’ll be able to see all four weekly requestsif you talk to villagers enough. Once you’vegiven characters the weekly request items, orbefore you’ve discovered any special requests, you cansometimes give them extra items.
If youvisit the tavern in the evening during a Palian day, you’ll be able totalk to multiple villagers and gift themall at the same time.
One ofthe best ways to gain Friendship is bygifting a character their personal Starstone, which is similar to a birthstone. As you give characters gifts,you’ll also learn which items are favorites. They’ll appear witha heart over the item in your inventorywhen you select the gifting option while talking to a character.
If a character refuses a loved item,make sure you’ve identified all their available weekly request itemsand fulfilled those requests. Theweekly requests will reset Sunday evening at 10pm CT, and the process will start over.
Characterswon’t accept the same gift during the week. If you gave them fish stew,they won’t accept another fish stew even if it shows up as a loved itemand all other gifts have been given.
Chatting with villagers isone of the most important activities. You’ll need totalk with them frequently to discover their weekly requestsand stillhave enough time to gather whatever you needto fulfill them.
Therelationship menu in-game will keep track of each villager’s weekly requests. If you haven’t found out about a request,it will show up as a question mark. Villagers also frequentlytell you what other villagers want, so you won’t necessarily be able to talk to one villager and ignore all the others.
Should You Keep Talking To Villagers After Max Friendship?
Ultimately, it’s up to you whether or not youwant to keep chatting with villagers and giving gifts. If youcontinue to chat with them, you’ll receive surprise giftsupon occasion.
Talking to thevillagers can provide hints to upcoming future events, such as thereturn of the Maji Market, a story-based party, or a new in-game visitor. It’s also a great way tofeel more immersed in the gameif you prefer that playstyle.
