Of course, with each new activity to fill your time in The Sims 4 comes a new skill to train your Sim to be the best at. Gemology is the new skill in Crystal Creations, and it allows you to take your jewelry and gemstones to the next level, becoming the best jewelry maker in town. Here’s how you can do it.
How To Get Started In The Gemology Skill
The best way to begin building the Gemology skill is topurchase the All-In-One Gemology Table By Humphrey, Inc.in Buy Mode for 650 Simoleons. It can be found underActivities and Skills > Creative. This is the only gemology table that’s available in the game, so this is the only way to build the skill without reading.
As soon as you have the table, click on it and choose betweenCut Gemstone or Design Jewelry. Depending on what you decide on, you’ll get a few options to decide what jewelry or gemstone you’d like to make, and what crystals or elements you use to make them.
Either one of these activities builds up your skill level in the Gemology skill.They both earn the same amount of XPtowards the skill level for the same time frame, so you can choose whichever activity you prefer.
How To Increase Gemology Skill Level
There arethree waysyou can increase the Gemology skill level while playing with your Sims:
Cut Gemstones
To cut gemstones, click on any Gemology table and chooseCut Gemstones. You’ll be given the option to choose the cut, which affects how the gemstone is shaped, and the crystal you use to make the gemstone out of. This will affect the color of the gemstone.
Once you’ve chosen the options you’d like,hit the checkmarkand your Sim will begin to shape the gemstone to the desired cut. It will take a few in-game hours to complete the gemstone, butyou’ll be earning XP towards the Gemology skill the entire timeyou’re working.
Each gemstone and piece of jewelry has a total cost it takes to make it.You can make this process cheaper by collecting your own crystals and metalsoutside, so you don’t have to pay for them at the table.
Design Jewelry
Designing your own jewelry is the other way your Sim can use the Gemology table to build skill level. Click on the Gemology table anywhere one is available and chooseDesign Jewelry. Again, a menu will pop up where you can choose details about the jewelry.
First, you canchoose the design of the jewelry, whether it’s a necklace, bracelet, earrings, etc. Then, you will have tochoose both a metal and crystalto use to make the jewelry out of. Once you’ve chosen all three, hit the checkmark and your Sim will begin to work on the project.
Similar to gemstones, it will take a few Sim hours to finish the new piece of jewelry. However,the entire time spent working at the Gemology table will grant your Sim XPtowards the Gemology skill.
You can also choose todesign a piece of random jewelrywith random selections for 300 Simoleons.
If you don’t feel like spending time at the Gemology table but would still like to build the skill, there is another option. Your Sim canpurchase and read any of the Gemology skill bookson a bookshelf.
To get the Gemology skill books, click on any bookshelf or computer. On the bookshelf, choosePurchase Books. If you’re buying them on a computer, you’ll need to clickOrderfirst, then Purchase Books. Scroll down until you find Gemology Vol 1, Gemology Vol 2, and Gemology Vol 3.
Since there are so many books, it can be easy to scroll past the ones you need. Choose to filter books by Skill if you want to find them quickly while buying.
Choose toread any of the Gemology skill books to increase your Gemology skilllevel. It’s important to know that when you’re just beginning the skill, you’ll need to read Vol 1 before you can read Vol 2, and so on. As you level up the skill, you can read later volumes.
All Gemology Skill Levels
There are a total often skill levels in Gemology. Here is what jewelry designs and gemstone cuts you unlock at each level, and what they cost to make:
The only gemstone that will not be affected by the crystal you choose for it is the Seed-Shaped Gemstone. It will be the same color no matter what. It is a light blue and purple ombré.
How To Cheat Gemology Skill Level
If putting in the work and time to raise your skill level isn’t what you want, you can always cheat to bring your Sim to whatever skill level you want in Gemology using the specific skill cheat included.
First, open up the cheat console by hittingShift + Ctrl + Con PC,Shift + Command + Con Mac, orall four shoulder buttonson controllers. Typing ‘testingcheats on’ in the console and hit enter to enable cheats in the game.
Once cheats are enabled, type or copy in ‘stats.set_skill_level Major_Gemology [1-10]’ and hit enter to set your active Sim to that skill level. You will need to choose a number between one and ten for what level you’d like your Sim to be. If you want to set them to level 7 for example, type in ‘stats.set_skill_level Major_Gemology 7’ and hit enter.
This cheat has no limits. You canchange your Sim’s Gemology skill level whenever you’d like, and move them up or down levels depending on what you want.
