There are two critical hits you’re able to land with a ranged weapon inNightingale: a Head Shot, and a Heart Shot. Both deal significant damage to the enemy. You’ll receive an early quest that asks you to hit Heartshots, but this isn’t that easy - especially with your basicSlingbow.
First, we recommend that you hold out on this quest until you unlock your firstfirearmas this makes hitting Heartshotssignifcantlyeasier. Your first weapon will likely be theLancaster Pistol, unlocked viaEssence TradersforEssence Dust.

How To Land A Heartshot
Rather than a rather obvious hitbox like a headshot, the Heartshot is a much rarer hit. You should aim for where you imagine the heart to be in the creature you’re facing. Essentially in their chest, underneath the neck.
This is easiest with the wild animals you’ve seen on your adventures across the Realms, likeWolves, Deers, and Boars.
This is much easier with the pistol as you have multiple shots rather than the slow-to-reload Slingbow. It’s a good idea to just ignore this quest for now - or land a lucky shot here or there.
The quest to land Heartshots doesn’t lock anything too major behind it, so you can wait until you’ve crafted your first gun. The Lancaster Pistol will be unlocked in yourfirst Tier 1 area.Nightingale naturally pushes you towards this with its gear score progression.
Once you’ve acquired the recipe and requiredWorkbenchyou can begin the pretty hefty journey of crafting the gun, as it requires plenty ofmetal parts.
You’ll also need to craftRevolver Cartridgeswith Ingots and Gunpowder.
